My car was ran on with some kids in new york city, and they left me with a big dent on on hood and roof. I went to get quotes around local shops around my area and these body shops are out to get you, just to fix the dent and re-paint the hood was about 1300 $$ ... so a mt friend and i took it upon ourself and paint my hood with a little twist. Tell me if you guys like it or not, thank you ..

Here are the before and after pic, from sanding down the area, to bondo, sanding some more, taping of the areas where i wanted painted, primed the area, added more body filler for scratches, black paint, and clear coat, and then buffered out to blend..

It's hard to tell but in the first pic, the black area looks to have a lot of orange peel (looking at the garage/house reflection).

It still looks good and is better than I could do.

Is that an air scoop in the grill on the right side?

I think if you are painting something say for instance the hood, you take the hood off and and paint it, once it all done you put it back on the car, now since the hood is fresh and you look at the fenders and front bumper they look dull compared to the rest of the car, so i left the hood on painted the hood on the car, and by leaving the hood on when i went to shoot the clear coat i shot the fenders and front bumper along with it so the whole front end looked better and blended all together, see my point, im not sure if that how everyone does it but i thought of the dullness and i didnt want that to be an issue so i just simply did what i did.. good or no good?

I know you know, but overspray is a huge problem when you're not painting things individually in an enclosed environment. Everything in your garage got hit no doubt (including the stuff on the shelves). Did you look over anything that was exposed on your car to see how bad it was? Looks as though from the roof back was exposed, and your passenger mirror maybe.

i actually tapped everything off and put paper over everything in the garage, mostly just the floor got hit, but not much over sprayyy, so that was a plus..

Ok, be sure to get some pics outside in the sun so we can get some nice reflections off the hood to see any irregularities. Also in case you don't know, waxing fresh paint for the first 4-6 months is a no-no.

Yeah, my painter said two months or more before waxing.

Yes give it more time to cure, don't buff it yet. Sounds like you already started, in which case too late. Always give new paint plenty of cure time, even before hand waxing it. Power buffer on new paint is a huge no-no.

And on matching the clear, more or less, no, that is not the best way to do it. Would have been much better to just remove the hood, and try to match the clear as best as you can.

If it doesn't match good and it stands out, and you spray the stuff onto your front bumper and fenders, now all of it doesn't match the rest of the car. If it matches good, then it was worthless to mask off the whole car. Either way, taking hood off wins. :)

Looks pretty good, the black center is always good on these cars... need more/better pics to tell one way or the other though.

yeah i started buffing and soon after i starteddd i realizedd this was a big no-no.. but it still came out well.. after it was all done i did notice some orange peel, but it wasnt bad at all.. due to the fact black is the hardest color to shoot, and due to the weather not being that nice out the clear coat came out really well, one little section i found a run, but i only noticed it because i was trying to find it, but to the normal eye you wont catch it.. i think it turned out well.. once the weather is actually sunny ill take some more pics, it been raining and snowing so you cant really see the difference..

And sadddly when i blended the clear into the fenders it did change the color of the front end, it looks better than the rest of the car, like it looks cleaner and much newer, but im hoping when i buff the whole car it will look the same and be just as goodd..

Fresh paint is buffed often. Especially after sanding to eliminate orange peel or other issues after spraying. Been a common practice for years. Its the only way to get a 1st place finish.

Looks good sp33do3.
