About two months ago I sold my much loved Mazda3 as I really didn't NEED a third car. My wife already has a 5 and I was only using the 3 to tote my son to school. In reality if we all went anywhere we took her car so the 3 just wasn't neded at the time.
Well as luck goes my wife tells me we are expecting another child two weeks after selling it... So now I need that car as I won't be able to put a booster seat and rear facing infant seat in my Dakota. So for the past few weeks I've been searching for a decent, inexpensive, fun to drive car with a stick to keep me entertained. I just couldn't find exactly what I wanted.
So tonight I stop by the Mazda dealer to see what kind of deals they have on used 3's and there sits a brand new 2008 Mazda5 in the copper red with a five speed...... That color is AWESOME. And it's a STICK.... It has the tan interior and the two look good together. So if all works out well I'll be bringing it home tomorrow and park it next to my wifes 5.
Hopefully pics to follow..
-edit- So I got my wheels moved over. I like it..... Can't see a Rondo EVER looking that good....

not many minivans in the world have the manual transmission, the 5's are the best looking minivans out there!!

It's not a 5, but, we've got matching cars. Check the sig pic
Welcome to the world of matching his and hers cars. We get ragged for it all the time. But most people think it's "cute" to have matching cars.

Cool, it was just a matter of scratching the surface then :D. Well, I had a similar dilemma to rodslinger, and to be honest, I did not find another car that would match the need (w/o sacrificing the drive enjoyment)
I'm sure you've seen this:

The only thing is that my wife has "marked" the keys so you know which one is for what car, she was all fed-up to find out that her car was unlocked or locked sometimes in the garage when she had done the opposite (yeah, I mess them up all the time). When holding kids and/or grocery bags its a freakin' show trying to reach your pockets looking for the damn keys.
...Now, my other choice was a Rondo... bwahahaha, now I'm just kidding.

Congratulations! My 2008 Mazda 5 is in Copper Red and I love the color. The european versions only got black interiour but I have 6 speed MT. Now I'm just waiting for summer so I can travel in a clean shiny car.

I'll have to do that with my brother's car, but mine's an 07 in Phantom Blue, and his is an 08 in Copper Red. (cabpatch)

thats sweet, do you ever trade cars? :) maybe buy yours some nice rims and lower it a bit?
man, that offset seam in your sidewalk would drive me insane... too bad they didnt match it up with your entry and main driveway!?
I own 3 mazdas. 1992 Mazda 626, 2001 Mazda MPV and the 2003 protege5.

Well it didn't happen. Price discussed was way different from the bottom number on the sales contract. I just got up and left without saying a word.
Maybe they'll call me back, maybe not. But I'm not paying more than discussed so it is what it is.

Yet another shame that Mazda doesn't Advertise the 5 in NA. It's not that often that people like a car so much, they buy 2. I love our 5 and if I was made of money, I'd go by myself on (a 5MT if possible). It reminds me of My family and Toyota Camrys. At one time, 5 of 6 family members all had ones in the 97-2000 range.

Got everything worked out and took delivery of the 08 Mazda5 Sport. It is copper red with tan interior and a 5 speed stick.... Fun to drive. Only option on it was the auto dimming mirror with homelink. Will have to get pics tomorrow in the sun.

Congratulations! Will you now have to get new children car seats for the second cars? In Canada we have the ISO FIX (a quick latching mechanism) in the second row seats that makes moving children car seats a breeze.
Here is a picture of the ISO FIX latch.

Yet another reason for why I chose a Mazda5. Apart from how easy is the access with the kid (in-n-out) the first one I installed it in 20 minutes (hell, I had to figure out some things). 2nd one in only 10 minutes. The latches keep it tight at all times. Same seat in my old Honda took me 30 minutes to install and tighten, 2 days later, it was loose as a stripper underwear (pissed)

I'm good on the seats as I already had one in my truck. I'll just move it over to the 5 as I'll be using that to transport the kids now. I'll get pics later tonight after I get the Mazdaspeed wheels on it. It's gonna look pretty good in that color with those wheels I believe.

Great pics rodslinger. The sand interior looks more like light gray over the copper red mica exterior I would say. My wife thinks that the sand interior color makes the Mazda5 look less Zoom-Zoom over the black interior, but with those MazdaSpeed3 wheels I would seriously debate that.
Well, with those wheels we now complete the showcase loop, RX-8, MazdaSpeed6 and MazdaSpeed3 in the Mazda5, and love each of them, that is for sure.
Enjoy your ride(s), and don't forget to post sometime later your driving experience compared to the Mazda3. I drove my buddy's Mazda3 (Grand Touring) the other day and, yes, there is a difference (I'm not trying to compare apples to apples) but is not that radical. The Mazda5 handling continues to impress me.
Oh, and Rondo What? :D

Yep, same color, just a bad cell phone pic. Ours is a no options 5 speed, and his has the popular options package (Spoiler, side skirts, sunroof, and CD changer). You can just make out the sunroof. We had talked to each other about getting one, but didn't know that each other had bought one till after the fact. We bought our in California, and he bought his in Utah. Months later, we moved in with him for a few weeks. It was funny seeing his neighbors wave at us, and realize they didn't know us. :)
rodslinger, congrats on the second! Thats is sure a nice color! Looks so good on those wheels, too!
Noticed it has color matched side mirrors. Is it a sport (no side skirts or rear spoiler)?

l really love those mazdaspeed rims on ur MZ5.
it really sets if off nicely.
do they bolt on directly?
only thing that kinda bothers me is that they dont have any traction control type safety mechanisms. or am i missing something and they do.
what type of gas mileage are u getting in those?
