this past saturday i had my MSP tinted by a tint shop that has a very good reputation in my area. although when i picked up the car i was surprized to see my rear window was bubbled along most of the defroster's lines. the tinter told me not to worry and this is a common problem for most mazdas along with some other makes because they have thick defroster strips. he told me to let the film fully dry for a week and to return and will cut the bubbles and it will be perfect. has anybody else heard this about their car or is this guy full of sh*t?
I got my car tinted last weekend and had the same problem
I brought it in on saturday and they told me the same thing,
he squeegied most of the bubbles and told me to keep it parked in the sun and keep a moderate amount of heat on it as much as possible.
He said that one way to get it to set up better is to run the heater grid on the window.
I have been running the heater grid for 20-30 minutes at a time and it seems to be getting better.
i have a 15 year warranty so im not concerned.

im glad i wasnt the only one told this. did your guy have to cut any of the bubbles? im still not too excited about this guy saying he could just cut the bubbles like its no big deal. i dont know how perfect he could make them so the film wouldnt overlap yet stll not be a hole

I had my windows tinted about a year and a half ago and the same thing happened. But since i got mine tinted in the summer, the sun took care of the bubbles. you can't really tell that they were there. just keep some heat on it and it should come right out.
He shouldn't have to cut out the bubbles though.

They dont Cut "OUT" the bubbles..they cut a tiny slit in them to allow the remaining air ti escapes ant ehfilm lays right back down.
Youd be amazed at how many rear windows arent done even in one piece....And you dont even realize it.
Dont sweat it if he has to give them a slit..you'll never see it and it is slightly normal for difficult installs.

My tint dude took the time to cut the strips out for each individual defrost line. He told me it took him like two hours just to do that and after doing my car he was increasing his prices for any future MSP owners to get theirs done. It looks great though and I'm very happy.

well we will see what happens when i return saturday to have it fixed
what tint % did u guys have done? i went with 20% on the front windows and 18% all arround the back with a carbon based film as to not interfere with my radio recpeption being that the antenna is on the rear glass
so went with the darker tint on the rear doors as well

Haha I removed all of mine. Which looks great but it also sorta dumb considering it can get to 120 in Phoenix in the summer. :)

I've had tint on mine for about 5 years now (first thing I did after I bought it new). The tint on the back window still has a very tiny gap by the defroster strips. I just left my rear window defroster on all the time and it helped quite a bit. I don't think you'll get rid of it all unless you do cut it a little. I think just about every car with the defroster strips has the same type of deal.

The place I went to said they usually do it in strips along the lines so that it doesn't actually go over them.

yeah...i sorta wish my guy wasnt as lazy and did it that way too
the way he did it doesnt look bad...but if u really look hard enough u can see the outline of where the bubble used to be, but it isnt that noticable

i got my MSP done at shades of gray and it came out really nice although i had the exact same problem with the rear windshield. its all good now though, its because the MSP has a different defroster pattern then the regular protege.
