I asked about this 6 months ago but i wanted to see if anyone is having the problems now there cars are older. When i shift to every gear but 3rd it is perfect! But when i am speed shifting thru the gears and shift from 2nd to 3rd it does this stutter thing. It feels like im not getting enough fuel or something. It happens for a second then goes back to its job. It will feel like i let off the gas completely then stomp it again. But obviously im not doing that. Anyone have any ideas?? Right now with the motor mount, Fujita CAI, and the test pipe it does it. When i put the car back to stock for a month, still does it. It will do it every time. I have tried using 93 octane AND octane booster thinkin it was the gas does nothing. I cleaned the MAF sensor and it did nothing. I took it to the dealer and they have no clue. So im hurtin. Please give me ideas. Thanks everyone!

I get the stutter as well.

And i think it's the tranny and not the fuel. This motor jumps. I have seen vid's of this car on dyno..i think once a suitable device for the rear end..and havening motor mounts done..this car will not have that stutter.

Maybe but i do have the rear mount and it didnt change anything as far as 3rd gear. BUT... it does jerk the hell out of my car like it could be some kind of mount. Originally i went to mazda and they thought it was the mounts, so we jacked it up and looked at the motor mounts. They were all trashed! So they replaced all 3 (i believe 3) of them. No change. So i dont know...

Just today moving on a on ramp in 5th hitting 65 mph. then all of a sudden shutter like starving for gas. went for about a second then nothing. back to normal. Could not recreat and no engine light coming on. Anyone else have this happen in 5th.???

ALSO at the same time I heard "KNOCKING" like pulling a heavy load on a truck!

i have the prob. in 3rd sometimes too what seems to work is reving to around 63-6500 and slitely slipping the clutch in and make sure you don't go full throttle when changing gears b/c turbo cars hate it so 1/2-3/4 throttle i found is best.

have you had your recall work done? the reflash and some shutter valve replacement helps this big time....My car used to do it the worst between 2-3 shifting. it was a big delay and then nothing really. But now it is all good and does really good...

Also noticed that the car is really sensitive to gas!! If I get gas from a no name station it is not happy. When I get 76 or Shell or Chevron it is really happy! The knock sensor works overtime when I get the shit gas...

Yep... I have had it all done. Thats why it sucks so bad. And about the gas, mine is the same. I thought that was maybe the problem so i tried different gas stations and even tried the octane boosters and it still does it every time..

my car was having the same problem and it finally threw a code and the dealer told me it was mis firing. so they replaced the spark plugs for free of course warranty and now it's better but occasionialy she still does it i'm gonna try a mod from another thread and see where that takes me.

yea i have the third gear only stutter also. i havent really tried anything to fix it tho. i think the spring strectch might be more for people who had it in every gear.

You might check you plug gap. I've got mine at 0.032 but others have lowered theirs to 0.030 or 0.028 and have had improvements.

mine does the same. its done it random times. i havnt been able to recreate it.
went to dealer and they couldnt recreate so they said there was no problem that they could fix. they have to hear to to fix it... what they said. ive heard it like 3 times.

Mine does it 100% of the time. Stop, Put in first, STOMP ON IT, Shift to 2nd, STOMP ON IT, Shift to 3rd, STOMP ON IT......Kinda... It says putt putt putt putt then goes VRoooommm! Its every time. And i dont have to stomp on it in 1st and 2nd for it to happen.

I had this problem also, but it seems to have went away when I went from summer tires to winter tires. Even with the summer setup, it didn't bother me enough to warrant taking it into the dealer. My car's done this since I got it, I thought it was just since the 6 seems to lack torque in the lower RPM then takes off in the midrange. Also car is still stock performace wise.

I have a tuned Unichip and mine still does it although, it is better at times. I hear that the Cobb AP does away with it.

I've a mazdaspeed 3, and I get the same issue - I reckon it's the cam driven fuel pump. It can give a fuel pressure issue at high revs due to some not being 100% 'healthy', but also in higher gears at lowish rpm as it can't respond fast enough under load. The engine stutters, pulling timing and boost, to try and prevent a dangerous a/f ratio. I've ordered protege garage's ptp fuel pump internals and some denso plugs - I'll let you know if it cures my problems. Im ecu tuned by the way, with cpe nano and a 2nd cat delete pipe. Its usually only when tuning the problem really shows, unless your pump is truly sucky.

Hope this helps a bit, but it's just my own suspicions, and from info gleaned across lots of mazda forums. :)

Mine backfires too but not on the acceleration, only when I left off to do a gear change. Does not happen all the time but it does get annoying.

Yeah, i got a CBE Magnaflow.

I think thats what does it. Something with the back pressure. Because every car ive ever owned with exhaust does that.

I've has this problem, and I've tried many things, but the only solution I found was flat-foot shifting with the Accesport.
