View Full Version : Made an intake
Finally got around to fabricating an intake. Here are a few pics. Next step is to get rid of the 2 silencers (which restrict airflow) between the MAF and the TB. Then I'll extend the intake tube down to the fenderwell.
Initial observations: a bit more growl up top and a slight whistle at low speeds. No seat of the pants increase as yet- I think that removal of the silencers will help. Really anticipating a slight increase in fuel mileage.
I promised myself that I wouldn't start modding this car, oh well!!!

I think that where you have it is great, unless you are going for the CAI. I would leave it there, but maybe fabricate a heat shield.
Great job. Don't forget to oil that filter before using.

Wish I had the ballz to start on mine. It is my only vehicle.

Looks good. Curious to hear how it responds with the silencers off. Also, do you notice any difference with idle or throttle response?

More than I'd want to do, but I will switch to a factory fit K&N for a little better airflow since I noticed a tiny but more zip at sea level than the 5200' we live.

What about warranty?

What about warranty?
Are you asking if the warranty will be voided by this mod ? Answer: Only if the mod caused a problem (and the dealer has to prove it). Google Magnason Moss warranty act for more info.

There is a seller on Sebay selling a similar cone intake for $20 shipped to your door. I picked one up for the heck of it and it arrived today. The seller is an HKS dealer.

does that come with the tubing or is it just a filter to clamp on to the end of the stock intake? Let us know how it goes on for ya.

that intake looks so kool and my friends say it adds at least 5 more horses... anyone know the part number for that k&n? or recommend another intake that fits on... =)

It bolts to the stock intake. Looks like you have to unbolt the stock airbox and bolt the new air intake to the stock setup. Not sure what the added tubing would do for it either way.

Someone should do a before and after Dyno test to see if it truly does help in increasing the power output.

Well i guess it increases the power at least like 5 horses... the hardest thing is installing the intake... because i ve never done it before... i dont even know how it works lol... but it sure looks kool and sounds awesome...

well here's the general jist of the idea behind Cold Air Intakes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_air_intake)
The benefits and results vary by application but if it's inexpensive I'm willing to try. ::)

You forgot to add that those 2 K&N stickers added about 20whp. (burnout)
But seriously, it looks like it's coming together. Great job!!

I've used cold air intakes before on my 96 Z-28. I went from 14.3@100 to 13.9@103 down the quarter mile(also added flowmaster muffler which didnt't help). I'm not sure if this intake will give simliar results. 5 horsepower in a 3000lb vehicle makes a bigger difference then 5 horsepower in a 5000lb vehicle. If this gave 15 horsepower I'd be all for it.

so wut no one can figure it out?
Haven't been on the forums lately- sorry for the delay, been busy.
I still haven't removed the silencers. No real seat of the pants increase, but you can hear the intake now. It hasen't helped w fuel mileage either. Silencer removal will add the real aggressive sound and a few horses.
Why did I do it???
Because I cannot leave well enough alone. Look at my sig.
For those of you wanting to fabricate one, you'll have to do some cutting and buy some tubing, and even trim that. It's easy, just tedious. Since the MAF is attached to the airbox, that's what you'll need to cut off. Don't do this if you do not know what you are doing.
Short Ram and Cold air intakes do add peak HP.
My next project is the exhaust, whenever I get around to finishing up the intake.
Peace.

Hey thnx for the fast respond. We all respect wut u did. I actually wannna do the same to my cx-9 but im kinda afraid tho cause i never done sumtin like that before.. the worst part is cutting stuff and puttin them together lol... that cutting thing sounds scary =) anyway if u can make like a detailed shoppin list that would be great. ohh and a detailed how to manual xD
