View Full Version : Question about DG Carbon Fiber gauge bezel

I have a question for everyone that has the DG carbon fiber gauge bezel. What did you do with the alarm led when you installed the bezel? I don't really want to drill a hole in the carbon fiber and I was wondering if anyone has relocated it. I've talked to Pirana and he said he wedged it in the A-pillar. I saw that Rush created a thread on this a while back but didn't really get any answers. I've seen people with these gauge bezels and I keep wondering what they did.
So, if anyone has one of these installed on their MSP, could you pleeeeeaaaase help me out. I'm dying to find a solution to this.
I did the same thing Pirana did. While I had the CF bezel, I pulled out the alarm LED and then wedged it between my a-pillar and the side of the dash. And even now, with the CF bezel removed, I still have the LED sitting there .. Kinda makes me feel better that the blinking red light is blatantly visible there, saying -- I have an alarm, don't touch me! LOL.
I can't remember off the top of my head since it's been awhile, but I believe there's a clip in the wiring to the actual LED. All you have to do is unclip it, pull the LED out, then reclip it and run the wire to place the LED wherever you like.

That sounds pretty good. I am all too familiar with where that clip is. It was such a pain in my ass when I was taking stuff off to do my DaveB rings. When you wedged it, was it a tight fit? Do you have any pictures of what it looks like? Once I get a visual, I'll be confident enough to do it.

i cut a hole in the bezel... with my pocket knife :) then i took a little resin and smoothed it over, used a sharpie on the resin to blend in. I did notice that fittment was an issue w/ the bezel on the lower right hand side of it, though. Before you take the tape off the back, make sure it seeds well.

Ehhh, I don't really want to cut into the carbon fiber. I'm looking for things people did that does not require drilling or cutting into the CF. Thanks for the info, though. I appreciate it.

I've thought about that, too. However, I would like to keep the light for the same reason Rush said. I like the peace of mind knowing the light is blinking when I'm away from the car letting others know I have an alarm.
But if it doesn't affect anything, maybe I will just get rid of it.
I have no idea where B put the digital camera, I think he might've left it in his Lexus .. I'll ask him when I get home from work tonight, and then I'll snap you a pic of where I have the LED 'mounted'.

Awesome! I really appreciate it.
Sorry about the delay .. I got home late last night and completely forgot till I hopped back on the forums this morning! :(
Anyhoo, here's a few shots. Pretend the interior isn't dusty.

That's perfect!! I'm doing that. Thanks so much for the pics.
One last question. Why did you get rid of the DG piece?
Eh, well .. I started out with the bezel. Then I got the radio surround. And then I started looking for the shifter plate and armrest .. and realized that if I didn't stop, I was gonna be dumping hundreds that I really can't afford into interior pieces that don't do jack for the car's performance. I had to make a choice -- start saving up for a tune, or buy the rest of the interior CF pieces.
So I'm still saving .. and it's a good thing I didn't spend the money for the pieces, cause money wound up getting pretty tight for me, has been for the past six months or so. Eeek.

So, did you sell or it or do you still have it?
Sold it. About .. seven months ago? Can't remember exactly.

I also took mine out. I have not had anyone mess with my car (knocks on wood) To me its nice to make the thief wonder is there an alarm or not?? If they know there is one they know they have to get around it and usually know how to. If not and the alarm goes off and either they get startled and take off or quickly get around it. Either way if they want it they will get it. Went a lil off topic but thats why I just kept mine off.
