Well about a week ago i bought some fd rims and mounted them on my ms3, they were painted shitty and i took my time and repainted them, did a wet sand to remove the old paint, sprayed some clear remover to rid the clear coat, sprayed primer, sanded the primer and sprayed glossy black on all 4 rims...this is the result. im hapy with it since i only spent 339 shipped on the rims and about 40 on the paint and things i n eeded to do the job...check it out, let me know what u think.....after i get some springs... it will look alot better

lower that thing and put some tire shine on and it will look 10 times better. Im not usually a fan of small wheel setup, but this looks pretty good, nice work.

Looks good! Slammed and tire shine will do wonders! I just think it's funny how a few years back everyone wanted to squeeze 18" & 19's on everthing and now it's back to old school 15's & 16's spraypainted!
My next wheel will be some 17x8.5-9" with some widebody action with as wide of a hunk of rubber I can get in there. Red mesh with polished lip.

for some reason ive always liked smaller rim with fat tire...it always seems like the car is really fast when i see small rims with fat tires... some times i do it in video games like nfs and forza...some cars can pull it off and i think this car does
Don't like it. Do you actually prefer those over the stockers????

It might be computer here at work ut your car almost looks like spicey MSP orange lol...Maybe if the rims were a little bigger, i dunno, is your ride de-badged?

i say leave the 15-16's to dumped on the ground hondas. those guys can pull that look off but im not feelin in on the speed3. unless you dump the hell outta it and camber in the wheels i dont think itll look good. just my two pennies. but since your feelin it then big ups then;)

it's the entrance to my work parking lot, and there's like a minefield of potholes...+_+; usually, i can just carefully get around them, but this particular time, there had been a rainstorm and it was all just a large puddle...=/ (the 10x part was an exaggeration...;))

Yes you can.
I own an FD and i have 255/50's on the rear. No problem.
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/1QWIK7/IMG_0276.jpg
Honestly, to the OP, i would have invested in either painting or powdercoating your stock wheels black instead. The FD wheels on your car doesnt match. Unless you were tracking the car and use the FD stocks for the front with slicks?

01-08-2008, 11:09 AM
oh, i wasn't worried about whether i could physically fit the tires on the wheels. of that, i'm 100% sure i can. what i was concerned about was whether it was going to rub against my fender when i put them in!
i actually like the look of these wheels. for now, there's a little too much space between the rims and the fender, but i'm either going to pop in cobb springs or get bigger tires to compensate for it...=d
1QWIK7
01-08-2008, 11:16 AM
Well the silver ones do look better on your car than the black painted ones on the other persons car.
But a bigger tire would def be recommended. And from looking at your pic, i highly doubt you'll rub your fenders.
Sacrilicious
01-08-2008, 11:28 AM
well, i think my main concern is rubbing from the inside of the rear tires. i've seen a number of people who have 245/40/18s complain about this...=/

I have seen a lot of people taking off the factory wheels and putting on a smaller setup! What is the reasoning behind this? I personally think it looks ugly and I can't see how anyone can argue with that, that is why I believe there has to be a good reason for changing! Is this a WINTER SNOW setup?
clos561
01-08-2008, 12:21 PM
Check out mine, i finally managed to get tire shine on them. No, not winter setup, its just 13lb rims, cheaper tires...works for me. I think it looks badass.

well, smaller rims are usually used at drag strips for better straight-line grip. they also give better ride quality and comfort. because they can be made significantly lighter (and also move unsprung weight distribution towards the center of the wheel/tire) than bigger wheels, they also give a performance boost and reduce stress on the suspension. that you find it looks ugly is a personal taste thing. i, personally believe that the stock 18s look too gawdy and pretentious for my liking, so i'm am perfectly content with this setup (as soon as i get cobb springs or bigger tires...:D)
oh, and i live in an area where i'm SURROUNDED by potholes! i've already bent a winter rim on an invisible pothole in a rain puddle, so i'm pissed off as hell. these rims eat potholes for breakfast, so i'm much happier with them on my daily commute! (alright)

NICE, clos! that's without springs, right? i'm gonna get my tires shined up too and see how much it improves the look...right now, it's pretty shabby...^^;

After reading what you had to say, I can completely understand why you did change over! I do understand the ride quality and issues with the low profiles and your wheels being damaged. I had the same issue on my GTI with 18's all the way around. Nothing the city didnt pay for though. Had 2 wheels replaced free of charge. It is a personal taste, and I dont mean to insult you or anyone who has done this, because having the vehicle the way you want it is all that matters.

naw, i'm not insulted...i just wanted to tell why i like it as i do...;) i wish i could get the city to pay for the damage, but i'm kinda screwed because it was my work parking lot...private property, and they're NOT gonna pay for it! (bang)

What's the cornering like?
Sacrilicious
01-08-2008, 11:48 PM
with 225/50/16s, it's not too bad, actually. these are actually rather low profile for being 16s...it's the 225/55/16s (which are very close to our stock tire diameter) which would probably have very squishy cornering. it's a tradeoff, though, because the 225/55/16s have a noticeably wider tread width...

i'm bringing this thread back to life. i think those FD wheels look really good guys! i love the stock speed wheels but they're too damn heavy. i'm going to buy some FD's if i can find some for cheap and paint em'. you guys have inspired me. haha.

I think they look alright. I am a big fan of recycling OEM wheels so I appreciate what you guys with the FD wheels have done.
I have honestly been looking for a set of Milennia wheels. My grandma has a 98 Milennia S with the polished chrome 16x6.5 multi-spoke wheels. There is a 5 spoke 17x7 wheel but it just looks too plain for me. Who knows though, if I can find a good set of OEM Mazda wheels I just might buy them.
