I haven't seen any other 3 much less ours with a flip out key option. Unless I missed it somewhere in the options catalog? lol But you said they are sold on Ebay...can they be programmed by the dealer for use on our cars? I'd check it out myself, but I'm at work, and Ebay is blocked..

For 08's, no, I heard it was something with the chip inside the housing that won't fit.... I'm not sure if 07's have the same problem, but I think they do.

US models are not able to convert to flip keys. For some reason or another, the USAMazda does not support the programming of this feature. Only Canadian models if I am not mistaked have the flip key. I know this as I was trying to convert and they turned me down for the reason I mentioned. Tell me about it, I am as pissed as all of you are.

^^+1^^
The TPMS is dependant on the USA ms3's KEU so it is not possible.

you can get one from Online Mazda Parts as long as you give Jason (bagman) your VIN.
don't hold me to it but i'm fairly sure this is correct!

MPO is the only place I've seen claiming they sell a flip key for the MS3, they want close to $120 for it though. No matter how much I've tried, I cannot justify that much for a key...

Look, you can buy a flip key where ever the hell you like. What you need is the receiver, and that is not available to us in the US and USAMazda does not support programming or installation of this feature. End of story.

Just for the record, Canadian MS3's come with the flip key.
As well, we have better floor mats.
But no heated seats... someone really fucked that decision up...

This is getting ridiculous... This thread is specifically for a MS3.

My last car was an 03 GTi and the dealership wanted $280 for ONE key...I would gladly pay $120 for a flip key to use on my MS3.
Can someone please clarify why the TPMS would have anything to do with the alarm system? Is it due to radio signals or something? If we have a key fob with the alarm buttons and all that, why wouldn't a flip key work since it would just be an engineering thing? Even if it was a little bigger, I would buy it if somebody would make it.

this is how i understand it.
new vehicles sold in the USA form 2007 were required to have a TPMS, for some reason mazda tied the system into the keyless entry unit, (must have been a quick fix)- I know this is true as i purchased the first kit from Jason which illuminated the TPMS light when installed. The key itself works but the remote function to lock/unlock the doors doesnt.
I dont think the Canadian ms3 has TPMS which is why i asked in my previous post.
I took my car to the dealer for the TPMS light which they associated with the foreign KEU, after 2 days of working on it they couldnt get the system to work. Lucky for me all my cost was fully reimbursed as the kit i purchased didnt work as advertised.

So here's the deal with flip keys. I live in the US, so my posts will be based on what I know for US models.
If you have a '04-06 model then you can purchase a flip key and use it without any problems (sedan, hatch, doesn't matter). As someone said Jason from www.onlinemazdaparts.com will cut the key for you if you provide your VIN. If you have two keys already then you can program the key and remote yourself. (if you only have one key the dealer has to program it, but you can still program the remote.) The whole thing will cost you about $75 shipped from Jason.
If you have a '07+ car then you're screwed. Originally we thought you could simply install the KEU from a Canadian 3 (as some Canadian 3's have flip keys) but as was mentioned that ended up not working. I haven't heard anything as to why, but the TPMS being linked with it could be causing it.
Incidentally I have a flip key and have been using it for over a key without any problems.

On to MS3 vs. regular 3 there isn't a difference between the two as far as the keyless entry system goes.

(jacked) I know it's a thread jack but it's on topic, I have a Canadian 2008 Mazda 3 Sport GT and no TPMS. Anyone ever heard of a switchblade with a start button? I just installed the OEM remote start on it and the remote needs a start button. Thanks
