First off, I have these wheels ordered already and they will be here between 10-15 days. I got a great deal on them, and I know that I should have gotten an offset closer to 52.5mm, but they didnt offer it.

I have read that some people have (or at least one has,) 17x8.5 53mm's riding on 235/40s and is not rubbing. I ordered 18x8 37mm. My only fear is they will rub the fenders but I dont see how. According to this website (that I will show pics from below) the 235/40s on 8.5s will be .4" closer to suspension parts and stick out .4" farther than stock. With a 37mm offset, mine will allow more room than stock for suspension parts, but will stick out .6" farther.

Even though I will be lowered on Cobb springs (only an inch drop, but the spring rates are stiffer than stock), I hope that this measly .6" will not make me rub.

Here are some pics of my clearances...

To measure how far my wheels will be able to stick out, I got a yard stick and placed it snug with my fenders at the point where the top of the tire would potentially rub.

Then, I got measuring tape, and somehow measured from the tire to the yardstick and took a picture with only 2 hands. (rei)

A tad more than an inch in clearance in the front.

without the measuring tape.

The rear had even more clearance (nearly an inch and a half)

And the site that I am basing this on shows a more technical view

So what do you guys think? Am I bound to rub and I should call the company ASAP to cancel or will I be ok? What would you do in my situation?

Thanks!

just keep in mind, Im using 235/40/R18 with 18x8" offset 48,

rear fender rubs with 4 ppl sitting in the car and make hard turns.

With that offset and tire width, that site says that you are sticking out .6" as well.

And do you mean that the fender rubs 1)with 4 people in the car and 2) around hard turns or just 1)when 4 people are in the car while making a hard turn?

Can you see any damage to the fender or is it mainly noise?

I think you're going to need a much higher offset, somewhere in the 48mm range. With 10mm less, you'll be rubbing on the outer fender for sure, potentially even if you roll it! The fender crease is very small on our cars already as it is.

I think I have a similar if not exact same calculator in my signature!

Just to be on the safe side, I canceled my order for these. Oh well. I found some for $75 more that have a +45mm offset. I'm hoping these will work!

That should work much better. The +37 might have looked a little funny as well poking out.

Here's a shot of my 235/45 17s (on 8" rims with 45mm offset) while my car was parked on some uneven ground. This is the driver's rear tire...

I haven't lowered my car BTW.
