Hello everyone!I am purchasing a 2003 protege5 on friday.I would like to know the backgrounds of these cars.I like the styling the best.I have a 1988 Isuzu Impulse se for my speed needs.I want to just get a little bit extra out of these motors.I have done some research on here and I feel the best way to go is with the obx headers.I am still undicided on the cai I should get.Does the K&N come able to mount in the fender well?Has anyone used the obx underdrive pulley yet?I trust the ur ones but the obx is a heck of alot cheaper!I spend enough money and time fabricating parts for my impulse as is.The protege5 I am getting has the triptronic trans. The interior has all the upgrades with leather.Any comments or tips you guys can give me would be much appreciated! Thanks

Tranny cooler & some synthetic ATF. Header & UDP of whatever make. Hiflo catted flex fitted midpipe & catback exhaust. Remove VTCS. Lightened accessory pullies. Suspension upgrades. Lentech valve body upgrade for the tranny. 8 psi max turbo setup (to not blow up motor or tranny). You can go more psi on motor with forged parts but tranny will still die. Lemme know when to stop because there's more & more depending on how far you wanna go. Tons of stuff...foglight mod, disabling auto AC, mx-6 rr stb, 6 wagon rear wiper, tribute windshield washer nozzles. It's all here. Pick & choose. Welcome & happy modding.

To answer the K&N question: yes, it does come ready to mount in the fender well with all nesessary hardware. If I were you I would go with the Simota Twin Charger.(http://www.simota.com) The reason I say that is because the tubes taper creating a vortex effect. Something to think about.

The K&N RC-4650 I have on my SRI has a rounded funnel angular cone shape exiting from the filter to the intake piping. (dunno)

I got the K&N typhoon CAI and yeah goes down into the fender well rock solid...Easy install and comes with great instructions...Your not going to get much of anything out of these motors but a bunch of noise unless you go down the dark turbo route but be prepared with a fatty wallet....All of the money you'd spend on N/A mods to get an extra 20-25 hp you'd almost be better off buying a turbo kit...Welcome to the forums..here some links to help you out

Theres also tons of vendors here on the forums and check out the F/S section for some good stuff...Good luck!

Welcome to the boards,

I can comment on the UR UDP. It will help on the interstate with crusing, lowers the power loss from AC, and make the car rev faster. Just remember to get the smaller belts need, and be prepared to tighten the crap out of the alternator belt. I have a CAI (InJen style) that goes into the wheel well, and I like it alot. I also have a AEM bypass value to prevent hydrolock. A tip, get a rubber hose, split it down the middle, and run it around the hole. This will elimate any noise from the CAI piping hitting the sides of the hole, and will keep the paint and finish on your CAI in top shape.

As for the Header, be prepared to either do a non-fouler trick, or get a bung welded for the second o2 after the cat. The OBX will throw a cell if it can not see a difference in exhaust between the 1st and 2nd O2 sensor.
