Hi! I am new from Calgary Canada. I just bought a 2008 MZ5 GT Galaxy Grey with Leather package today. Car may take two weeks before I can pick it up.
I can not wait to drive the MZ5. So far I am very happy with the test drive. The 5-speed AT drive fine like a Audi Tiptronic.
The only two things I am not too happy is the rear air fan only blow cool air. No heat at all. The second is the DRL still run on the low beam. Not like the 2007 MZ3 that run on high beam that will cause me problem if I want HID.
If any one have some way to disable the DRL, please let me know.
By the way my name is Eddie
Thank you

Picked up our '08 yesterday! We just discovered the same issue with the rear vents. Since its cold here, we don't know if it has to do with recirculate vs ext. vent. I am going to try running the system in recirculate mode today when I drive it to see if that helps.

Hi,
When I look at the manual, it said "COOL AIR ONLY" no heat will come out at all.???!@#

Congrats on your purchases, you'll enjoy the car greatly :D

Yes the Cool Air only limitation is already known :(. I have not had a big issue, but I acknowledge I'm further south from you.

Hi Esprit,

I purchased my Mazda GT Silver with leather last Wednesday. The dealer also said it would take two weeks for delivery but based on the forum, I think we'll be waiting a couple of months.

I love the promotions 0% financing, 1% GST credit and the $500 Futureshop Gift certificate. I didn't care for the gift certificate so I asked the dealer if he could take $250 off the price of the car instead and it worked.

Did you take any options?

Congratulations and let us know when you take possession.

Yep, we confirmed today when finalizing the paperwork on the car at the dealer that the rear vents are cold air only. Thanks for the update too.

Hi Radiohead,
How are you? My dealer told me that my car had arrive Vancouver. Because is X'mas and New Year holiday, they don't know how long will take it to Calgary. They said around two weeks.
And by the way, which city and dealer you went? I didn't get $500 Futureshop Gift certificate.!!!!!
thank you

radiohead

I didn't get $500 Futureshop Gift certificate.!!!!!

The promotion is called "More the Merrier". In ontario we get 0% financing and a $500 Futureshop gift certificate. In Alberta you get http://www.mazda.ca/event/index.html?WT_Source=MAZDA.CA_TOPNAV&WT.mc_id=MTM_07_EN_R0_MAZDA.CA

0% financing and $500 in Christmas cash.

Ask you dealer about the "Christmas cash". My dealer never mentioned the gift certificate probably because in Ontario, the dealer pays $250 and Mazda pays $250 for the $500 gift certificate. So I got my dealer to drop the price by $250 instead of taking the gift certificate.

Wow. Mazda really should have put heat back there.... funny because the vents pull air from the HVAC case, right near where the floor ducts (that have heat and A/C) are.... how hard would it have been to route it to them instead of where it just pulls in 'cool' air?

In the prairie winter, we don't need extra heat at the back of the MZ5. We are already wearing heavy down-filled winter jackets upon entering the MZ5.
I noticed my passengers soon complain of too much heat. But the AC unit for the back is good one during summer.

I called the dealer today and I've got quite a story. My car was a dealer exchange and the other dealer is in Laval near Montreal. So the car was supposedly taken off the train on December 29th in Laval and it will be shipped back to Ontario.

I hope they use one of those car transport otherwise it will be a semi-used new car by the time it gets to my local dealer.

What's an acceptable number of Kilometers on a new car?

coolmazda5
01-03-2008, 08:34 PM
I would say 100-300 kms is acceptable but obviously double check the car (engine) when doing the final acceptance just to make sure. If it has more kms than that ask for some freebies at least (what about some Mazda accessories or some free services?)

I'm sure the "brand new" car inter-dealer transfer is common for your dealer so they have a procedure to not get a teenager driver bringing it from Montreal at 162Km/hr.

Now, if it has 5000Kms, ask them to get it serviced before delivery at least (joking ;))

blacktalon13
01-03-2008, 08:36 PM
if the vehicle is in Laval.. they're not going to drive it down.. they have to ship it down... where's your dealer?

it really depend on the dealership. some dealership have not much parking space. so their new inventory is usually somewhere else.. i would say 100-200km is acceptable to me.. but if the car has like 500-1000km.. i'll freak out on them...

usually cars have 5-15km on the cars brand new, they do need to drive out of the factory.. into the boat.. on to the train, onto the lot...

Howdy everyone,

My wife is a proud new owner of Mazda5 Grand Touring. It is comfortable for her, and easy for the kid to get on and off the vehicle. Attached is a pic of it from this weekend:

I already ordered the cargo cover and rear bumper plate. The next project is to add a bit of sound insulation to see if I can quiet down the cabin even more.

Thank you. Please let me know how your HID will go.
I just don't understand that why Mazda don't switch the DRL to the high beam for the 2008 MZ5. All 2007 MZ car use Hight Beam for DRL(*not 2007 MZ5)???????!@##$

hey eddie (i think that's your name?)

no problem.. i'll be doing the hid in a few weeks.. make sure there's no problem with the car first.

i think it's stupid too.. mazda5 is low beam as DRL.

when i get the wiring diagram for the 2 cars. i'll see if i can email it to you so u can take a look at it. i'll let u knoe when i get it done.. haaha don't worry

Thanks blacktalon13! This forum provided lots of great info, and I really learned alot about the car's utility and quirks.

I have a big favor to ask: I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the shop manual that can provide a couple pages on how to take off the door interior trims and the rear wheel well interior trims. I dislike randomly picking at the trim pieces with a screw driver.

Thanks for all the help!

Tonight I picked up my (canada) 2008 Sunlight Silver Metallic Mazda 5 GT, 5 speed manual, leather package, and roof rack. (dance)
During the inspection I tried to close the sliding door by pulling on the door (not the handle) and two small plastic pins broke off the rubber seal. The plastic pins are so delicate that I will sure break a few more within the next few weeks. The dealer immediately replaced the pins.

I was under the impression the Canadian GT came with an Ipod adapter but I was surprised to see it came with a auxiliary connector instead.

This week I got a ScanGauge II to monitor my fuel consumption. I will report my findings within the next few weeks.

Not sure if the issue raised by the first post was resolved. The wife and I picked up our '08 Mazda5 Jan 14. We were also puzzled by the lack of heat from the rear fan until we finally understood that it is a "rear ventilation system" only providing neither heat nor A/C but outside air only. Nearly froze our fingers off waiting for warm air to come out.

I got mine from West Coast Mazda in Port Moody, for no reasons other than they are the closest to home, Mrs Sparkybhoy was the one doing the initial visiting and they called up to say that the one that she wanted was in their lot.

I have seen a couple of 06/07 black ones kicking about the Tri-Cities. One guy has got dark tinted windows on his and it looks awesome.

I don't have the time to keep a black car clean! (been there, done that, got the dirty t-shirt) but they look great on a sunny summer day...
