JL Sub upgrade question

Hi I'm new to the Mazda world and have just bought an new 07' MS6. I am installing some JL subs and amps on to the existing Bose system which I was helped out with by searching these forums thanks! I have everything hooked up now, JL ZR 6.5's in the doors and 2 W6/10's in the trunk with 300/4 and 500/1 amps. My question is what have you all done to get better bass transfer from the trunk to the cabin? I have the stock Bose sub still running for mid bass and I wonder if removing it and using the hole as a "port" basically would improve the sound or just make it rattle? I'm more interested in good bass then having my trunk rattle at a stop light so this is the reason for my questions.

So no one has added a sub in the trunk and tried to improve bass definition? I guess I will have to try the hole and maybe add a port of some kind to experiment.

Yes I have Hushmat in the trunk and rear shelf along with the mounting board for the amps. I really need to redo the doors though or at least add more. I just don't want to add all the extra weight to the car.

Nice box tho man. Come this summer I think I'm going to find a good looking way to hold mine in place. Never thought about a piece of wood before.

I will be redoing the wood with a carpeted bar and 2 quick release pins on the ends so I can remove to get at the spare tire, just have not had the time yet. The box is a JL Stealth box out of my 07' Dodge Megacab. It is built for the Megacab but fits very well in the Spd6!

I finally gave up and removed the stock sub so I had better sound transfer to the interior. The deck got layers of Dynamat and the stock grill was deadened also. The bass was much cleaner and I could turn the gain down so it sounded even better. I thought I would loose the mid bass but the front speakers still give a good presence to the mids and the cross over for the sub can be a bit higher without loosing definition.

Overall I can recommend this is the way to go if you are adding a sub in the trunk and want the best sound. I may experiment with some kind of adjustable "port tube" to see if it improves at all.

What kind of decks are you guys using? especially with the DUB7's:P

I integrated the factory deck and the JL XR 6.5's front and rear, used a clean sweep and then run the JL amps. Actually just finished the install today and other than not having a ton of bells and whistles I think it sounds awesome. I know it will never be my home theater quality but it is VERY clean and quite loud if needed. The best part for me is it is invisible to anyone looking. I just tell them "yea it's a Bose"! Ha!!!!

i thought about cutting a hole where the rear seat arm rest is. dunno though that would be alot of work, i will try to just take the 9" out like you. Im planning on 2 15" Memphis M3s so there will just be bass, mids are no concern of mine lol

It was not reqally the mid bass I ment the sound is more muffled without a pass through than with. I want the bass to be well defined and not boomy and muddy, hate that!

I'd say remove the stock sub to open up the trunk to the cabin.

Hmm, I might try that once I put my subs back in. They're out for winter and some other reasons.
