I had to accelerate hard the other day to get past a driver and when I went into second gear I was spinning my tires, then the car made a thump kinda noise as I think I hit a rutt in the road when I was spinning the tires. Is there any way I can do damage doing this by accidently? Thanks in advance.

That's wheel hop which is due to the soft motor mounts tranferring the motor movement thru the axles to the wheels. There are stiffer replacement motor mount bushings available along with some stiffer lowering springs.

That makes sense. I was going to lower the car in the new year. I hope it makes a difference in this department. Thanks for reply.

Check this thread for one example of the motor mount options. This will do more for the wheel hop specifically and the springs will help a little more. Springs won't help very much on their own.
