So I hydro locked my ms6 this week in a nice amount of standing water on the GSP @ about 80
(hah)... Diverter valve on the cai too. :(... To make a long story short has anyone had there engine out yet? If so how big of a job was rippin it down to the block.. Any special tools? star drives? etc.... I took the plugs out and cranked it to clear out the water & changed the oil. But unfortunately I bent something in the engine... She runs but i have a slight tap... I can feel it in the clutch if its depressed about 1/8" more then i can hear it.. I'm thinking bent valve, rod, cracked head, scored cam, turned bearing.. I'm gonna run a compression test tomorrow and try to narrow down a cylinder. No smoke ... ANY INPUT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED :)

taking out this motor and pulling everything apart is no cake walk. i didnt take it out personally, but the guys who did told me it took alot of extra hours then taking apart the average 4 cyl.

how the hell do you hydrolock on a FI car? you sure you hydrolocked?
robooccms6
12-17-2007, 05:06 PM
No but I am sure that I had to change the engine oil out 2x before all the water was out... I most def have a knock.. Not a big one but big enough. I won't know for sure till I have it taken apart... But at the same time I want to go forged components even if it breaks the bank

Especially going 80 mph! The puddle would have had to have been 6-8" deep or more!

Where on the GSP were you so I know where to avoid? Also, where in Jersey are you from?
I thought I hydrolocked 2 months back near Philly .. was driving at 60 mph when I hit a big standing puddle of water after a freak thunderstorm. The only thing that saved me was that I saw it coming and just prayed, and my foot was off the gas, so its not like I was at WOT or anything. Car stalled in the middle of the lane, and I had to use the starter motor to get me to the side of the road. I have to say, that was the most nerve-racking experience of my life.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I just put my stock intake back on Saturday fearing this same misfortune.

I am from exit 105. It happened northbound around 83 or so. I would put it thru comp insurance but then I WILL be uninsured come march. 2 points on my license and it was damn near impossible to get motorcycle insurance. If and when I buy a forged engine from protege garage does anyone in the tri state area know of any installers... IDA automotive is the best but i felt they were a little out of my pricerange When I had my car dynotuned, Bob had to pull a ford gt off for my car :( ... So here I am wandering the shop while he was hookin up my a/f.. Lambo(new engine and suspension) Land speed title holder ford~lightning.. etc..

Bypass valve? On a turbocharged vehicle? Taken from their website: "The AEM Air Bypass Valve is C.A.R.B. exempt on AEM Cold Air induction systems only and is NOT for use on forced induction vehicles"
(Link: http://www.aempower.com/ViewCategory.aspx?CategoryID=20)
I had one on a previous Honda (back when I was young and foolish, and Id rather not talk about it), and it worked damn good. Drove through some puddles about 12"-15" deep with an AEM cold air intake. But, to my understanding, the basic principle of the thing would make it not work correctly on a force induced vehicle.

What FI has to do with hydrolock?
The engine sucked some water, water won't compress= bent internals. FI don't have anything to do with this problem.

Why don't you just put it back to stock and take it to the dealer?

yea why the hell would FI have anything to do with hydrolocking your motor, i agree you can hydrock lock any motor no matter what type of power adder you have on your motor

Are you sure it's hydrolocked?
It might just be the MAF shorted out by the water. Even if you did suck up water, I'd think the turbo would get hit first. Then there's all that piping and the intercooler that the water has to travel through. I'm not saying that hydrolocking an FI car is impossible. I'm just stating other scenarios.

Insurance normally covers hydrolocked engines...
and as someone already stated, CAI diverter valves are not made for FI cars..

Think about the course the water has to travel. It has to pass through many things including the key part, the intercooler. I'm not saying it's impossible but damn near almost. Unless he was standing in the puddle revving the engine for a while.

passing through the intercooler really isnt a problem
and if its going through there while the turbo is spooled then its definately not a problem heh...
plus he said he was draining water out of his oil...

It would be nice if it was my turbo.. But i am 100% positive I sucked water in my engine when i pulled the plugs and spun it the bitch looked like a fountain... Its at the dealer right now. I'm playing the "my engine sounds funny game" at the moment... I'm just waiting on the call why does your wiring harness look like it has a fresh tape job?

Thats why I am all over working on a backup... I am looking into a pg forged engine right now... Trying to find a good mechanic worthy of this type of work without breaking the bank is killing me tho..

Got her back and the cd player works but the headunit wont hold steady volume and bass keeps going in and out... The mechanic stated "no problems @ this time" as far as the engine.. I'm going back in tomorrow and raise all hell.. At least she is still pretty lol... ill keep yall posted

So the dealer put a couple foam strips on the intercooler cover and said that was the cause of the rattle. B/S
As far as the radio goes they said the alc control was set to 3 and that was the cause of my radio shorting out.. After going back and forth with the tech about the radio I was about to punch his ass out so I left, the radio started messin with me 5 minutes later, I called the sales manager and took it out on his ass.. Tomorrow I'm pickin up the 5 minivan while they look at it again.. I am gonna beat the shyt out of that loaner..

I'm a south jersey boy, but for curiosity sake, I'm wondering where you take your MS6? I got my car from Reedman Toll in PA. I take it there for maintainance because it is about the same driving time as Hamilton Mazda.

Sorry for layin LOW guys... Last friday i was comin home from a/c @ 3 am.. This time I REALLY was only goin 85 on tha parkway not even on the throttle hard and I felt the car buck.. Looked down to see my oil light comin on.. YESS
I was only a mile from the first rest stop north from a/c on tha parkway.. Coasted her in & popped the hood... #1 piston went thru tha block & parts blew thru the plastic undercover under the car.. Needless to say by the time I got it back to tha dealer it was 8 am.. Its ironic that I had my appt for my radio switch out that day.. I walked in told tha service manager how pissed I was that they said my engine was fine... They immediatly gave me a loaner.. Tuesday I got a call that my engine was in.. Yesterday i got a call that my car was done.. No problems with tha warranty at all.. Cpe bypass was in place since tha incident last month.. I mean it was hidden but come on 14 or so splices. The only thing tha dealer didnt do was plug in my rightside blinker/ headlight electrical connection all tha way so of coarse they didnt work. U guys have any input on the best way to break in my STOCK engine.. Chris had the same question with his build a beast and yall started arguing on how hard it should really be driven to seat the rings etc.. any input? I was thinkin about just keepin it under 3k and lettin it ilde for 5 before shutdown for about 1000 miles ... that gonna be enough?
