Winter weather and sliding doors?

Hi:

Now that my local dealers are starting to get some 5's in stock
I'm getting prepared to go talk about the numbers ($$) with the
dealer. Not looking forward to that since I will be doing a trade-in.
Our current ride is a Saturn, a company famous for low pressure
sales transactions.

Anyway -

One thing I have been wondering about since I live in Michigan
where we do get more than our share of ice & snow storms is
do the sliding doors tend to freeze up? I keep looking at the grove
in the side panel and wonder what happens when you get ice frozen
up in that channel? What do you all say?

I don't think this groove/track on the Mazda5 is any more susceptible to ice block up than any other vehicle with sliding doors. I live in Calgary and we get some decent snow and I've never had a problem.
Some of the early GS/Sport models had problems with the latches freezing, but this has since been rectified.
You should be okay.

We just had some snow and ice... My door just slid back and snapped off the icicles.

Thanks for the replies so far. This will be our first vehicle with
sliding doors, and I'm glad to hear that there doesn't seem to
be a problem with the grove/channel getting frozen up.

There was one time I feared the sliding door stuck but later I realized it's still Locked. (hand) Haven't stuck since it started to get cold (-20C plus) here. Sometimes it's a bit heavy but still opens.

im on ohio\mi line. It does fine with the doors. The only issue they had were sometimes after it opened it wouldnt latch shut but they have addressed it with a recall or tsb.
