Is running an open downpipe good for these cars? I know of 2 people that run open down pipe (meaning no exhaust past the down pipe) and it really didn't seem right to me. Both of the cars were really loud (which is what i think one of the owners only cars about) but is it beneficial to not have an exhaust?

the exhaust gases are really hot when they exit the manifold, and cool as they travel down the exhaust pipes. ive read people melting wires beneath their car because they ran an open DP. if you run one, i have no doubt youll ruin something beneath your car.

There was a guy on here that was running an electric dump valve and when I asked him about it he said it's not a good thing to do. The car needs that lil bit of backpressure.

please don't
an aftermarket downpipe and catback will flow more than you'll ever need

I would never do it on my daily driven car, but it is good for a turbo car to have open exhaust.

There's plenty of backpressure on this car, namely the turbo, it provides all you'll need in the way of back pressure.

Bah, I ran with the stock open dp for several months. It was pretty loud, but it had really good gains and no fuel cut with an intake and a boost controller. Then I switched to a catless cp-e dp and that was even too loud for me. So I made myself a shorty cat-back with a Borla muffler. Sounds good and runs like a scolded cat.

One of the guys i remember saying that his car would get really warm on the inside after he took it off. And what kind of gains are you guys talking about? Should a ms6 running open dp be able to keep up with a ms3 with cai from a roll? To me it seemed like he lost some power cause i could catch fairly easy.
