you posted this in the MSP section ;) but I'll answer anyways.
I believe the MP3 ECU changes timing and fuel etc getting you about 10 hp more than a P5 ECU but it requires you to run high octane...
lol hopefully you're not planning on running either in the MSP
I thought the MP3 was just a MSP with a MP3 capable deck, bass tube. and fancy paint job?
Why would the ecu be different?

OK MSP and MP3 are alot different then you think. The MSP has a nice turbo sitting up front along with an intercooler. The ECU is much different do to that. Let me fix your earlier post
"The MP3 was just a Protege with a MP3 capable deck, bass tube. and fancy paint job!"
The Mazdaspeed Protege is a Great track car with a little more help.

Ummm wrong #2 (yupnope). Let me fix both of your quotes.
"The Mazdaspeed Protege was just a MP3 without a bass tube (had a different subwoofer), with a turbo and a SMIC, different style wheels, and without the awesome EuroSpec quick ratio steering column (that the MP3 did have (nana)), and a horribly tuned ECU."
If you want ALL the tiny differences (shift forks, oil cooler on the block, shift knob, floor mats, etc.) you can search around. Or I can get very specific if you want.

no wait let me fix it again...
The MP3 is a protege with 10 more hp and nice body kit and paint job...the MSP is an MP3 available in several colors two different body kit styles, a better set of racing harts, a crappy sub instead of a crappy bass tube, and roughly 70 more hp because of the turbo and a terribly tuned ecu!

haha youre right, but who plans on steering quickly when flying by an MP3 at 135 mph! And we have the cooler "mazdaspeed" badge...so Nanners to you!

LOL, I can go back and forth all day if you want. But both do have a good (for stock cars) suspension setup with bigger anitrollbars, stiffer springs, and tokico struts. MP3 also has a flip down cupholder cover and tiny front lip on the bumper.

I'll give you that! I do wish I had the flip down cup holder cover! The 03 MSPs also had that little black splitter on the bumper, but I hated mine...not functional and looked stupid...I took it off and it looks much better.

Hey us MP3 guys can get to 135mph too you know. All we need is a 45 degree downhill slope and a tailwind!! We do have the same gear ratios. And after you fly buy you end up in someones bumper cause it takes you 1.23444345 more turns of the the steering wheel. (friday)
So the MSP was a better car with a crappy sub instead of shifter forks, 2 different oil cooler styles, a better set of racing turbos, 80 more watts on the bass tube, 10 different paint jobs, and heart shaped rims?................................j/k :)
I honestly thought the MP3 was turbo and that's why people liked them so much (just like the MSP). Someone said they only made a handfull of them so that's why people consider them rare and that's why the ecu's are hard to come by.

you forgot the msp has a flux capacitor...MP3s are definately more rare than msp's, but unfortunately for mp3 owners there was no turbo
Roger dogder. Thanks for clearing that up.

The MP3 was a first attempt at a Mazdaspeed car in the US. Here is a little more info if you want:
