Can This Work

Well i love the sound of a sweet exhaust, but i hate the drone, and sometimes i just want some peace and quiet. so i thought of a way to use a cutout and a resonator. but will it would the way i want it to.

When the cutout is closed exhaust gases will pass through the aftermarket exhaust (vibrant) and give me the gains of a free flowing exhaust with all the noise for free lol

but when the cut out is open it will let exhaust gases pass through a resonator quieting things up a bit.

but will it work the way i want it to

Fab it up the other way...when closed it goes through resonator, when open it dumps.

Bah, just looked at the pics, thought you had a resonator and were looking for a way to bypass it at times. It looks like it would work but it would be some interesting fab ups. In theory, yeah, but you would need two cut outs. Otherwise, I think the point where the resonator and exhaust come together, the gas would flow back into the resonator via the opening. Course, it may not.

How about doing a simple cut-out instead of all the complicated piping? Turbo cars sound GREAT when uncorked completely, and you'll probably get the point across to other drivers pretty quick when you're open vs. normal.

Installing a cutout with a simple short pipe to the ground would be the way I'd go.

I agree with the dump. the piping needed to route the gas properly the way you're suggesting would cause too much turbulance I think. plus if you dump you hear the turbo super loud, which is kinda neat-o.

but with a plain old cut out will we get the boost spike. if so i dont find it worth it. boost spike+not enough fuel= to much money to fix

Our cars run so rich anyways, it might be a good thing. I think I saw it somewhere on here that the reason the Mazdaspeed CAI gets so much power, beyond cold air, is it just leans out the A/F a bit.

Are you sure? I mean, after the stock cats and all that...you still think we'll spike? Hmm...

The boost spikes for like a fraction of a second. is that enough time to create enough heat to do any damage? besides it's not like you'll be running it open all the time.
