when u hook up just the power wire, the backlight is red and closely matches our interior light color. when u hook up the white wire, the backlight turns white which is what i want for during the day, but then how could i wire it so that when i turn my parking lights on it turns back to red? the orange wire is suppose to be wired to parking lights but then that makes the backlight an orange color which i dont want. thanks

you could do a double splicing of the wires. In the how to section check out the "fog light always on" thread and that will give you the power wire. Splice between that one and the main power wire for your gauges, and that should work. Because then it will send power to that wire when the parking lights come on.

I don't think its gonna work they way i want it to. I sent a email to prosport and they said im tryin to use the gauges in a way it wasnt designed to. They said maybe try to use a relay. If i hold the power wire and touch it with the white wire, the backlight will turn white and stay white even when the wire is not connected and the only way to get it back to red is to power off the gauge then back on. So it seems im either gonna have to settle for red all the time or use the white with amber

Can you go a little more into detail on the wiring. How is this gauge grounded? What color is the "power" wire?

red wire is power and red illumination color. black is ground. white is white illumination. orange is amber illumination. only way i've found to get red illumination back after one of the other colors is to turn the gauge off then back on. prosport said to try a relay but i dont know anything about those and how they work

use the horn ...you need a constant +12v for the flip to red at night ...that is how mine is wired up.... i taped off the fuse for the horn under the glove box. White with the lights off and the matching red when i turn the lights on.

so red power wire to a constant 12v source? where did u place the white wire? If its a constant 12v source, wouldnt the gauge be on all the time? How does it know to flip back to red when u turn the parking lights on?

My current setup is I have both red and white wire spliced in the ignition, and orange wire spliced into parking lights. weird thing is tho, when i only have parking lights on with car off the gauges show white. If i start the car then turn park lights on it shows amber

I used the add a fuses from auto zone instead of tapping into sources. Right under the glove compartment extended the electrical about 12" or so for all 3 found a good gnd and it all worked great.

Red wire/ fuse 37 White/ fuse 81 Amber/ fuse70.

Yeah you cant use the parking lights as the directions say ....i had the same problem......try the orange to the horn. I tried every combo using the parking lights and i could not get it to flip correctly.

I got 3 for like 5 bucks....... its goes in replace of the fuse in the box and you then put the actual fuse in the top and the wire that comes out you connect to the guage.... look here

If you want before you go spending more $$ , just try the orange to the horn lead under the stearing colum. I have no idea the what wire it is thought thats why i went to the fuse block..lol

In the ms3 it is right under a cover right behind the glovebox.... Sorry man I didnt realize you had a mp3.... I did a little searching and it seems its in the same place on the mp3.. If you feel around right under the glovebox there is a plastic cover and under that is 2 plastic tabs one on the left/right. You just turn them both to unlock the panel and it should drop down.

are you trying to run white during day and AMBER at night. or white and "red"...I think it's called like 'deep red"

Did you get this figured out yet?

I guess so. I mean their hooked up and working rite, white/amber. I did buy those add a fuse things from autozone, so when i get some time i will install using those to clean things up a bit. Im actually leaning toward sticking with amber rather then goin with red. My stock gauges seem to match up a lil better to the amber compared to red. If i remember correctly, i think i removed those little red caps from the bulbs behind the stock gauges long ago.
