I just purchased this MP3 for a trade of my 2001 Honda Accord Coupe. I had a MSP in 2004 and I wanted to start my own turbo project. It is currently in the process of getting a 3-4-5 gtx gear change, MSP welded LSD, stage 3 clutchl, and fidanza flywheel, performance motor mounts. Pics will come soon, to bad I already started on paint interior piece that were yellow before I took pics. OOPS.

so are you going for a drag car, motox, or just a fast street car?

I sold it when I thought i was getting out of the Navy to go back to college, but then my wife turned up prego. To bad it was already gone.

Where did you find the GTX 4th gear??

PG

So I just dropped over 1500 dollars in parts to PG for all my tranni parts and another 109.00 to SU for the last motor mount. That is going to put me at one SU Motor mount, one from SLS, and a front and rear one from AWR.

that sounds pretty reasonable for a rebuilt/upgraded tranny.

Is that mount from SLS the pass side? And what exactly is the benefit of the gtx gears, why 3,4,5?

i was just about to ask the same thing, for future reference

Jake_isr

yes the SLS is the passenger side and the gtx gears are the same ratio as the protege but much stronger.

So why not replace the first two gears, especially since they see the most abuse?

Good luck with the SLS mount. I had to modify my bracket quite a bit to get it to fit.

I'm not replacing the first two gears because they look fine. Also I want to wait till the come out with some better replacements.

actually just slightly stronger, if you want the real deal I can give you the info for who sells race gears made to take 500whp+. If you plan to drag it the GTX will last just a little longer than the stockers, i've seen them break after a few passes at the 1/4. What do you plan to do as far as power Turbo or stay N/A?

Jake_isr

Going turbo after I build the engine a little. Not really looking for more than about 300 HP

You may have some issues with the tranny even with the GTX gears. Try it out though...ive gone through 3 trannies and a welded LSD on daily driving with just 9psi. But everyone is different.

Thanx for the help. Its crazy because in my 95 Eclipse Gst I ran 20 psi with factory tranny and motor. Thats the good old 4G63 though.

Eclipse motor > Slotege motor You said it.....

Im on the lookout for turbo manifold, High compression forged pistons, forged rods and some intercooler parts so if you have a deal for me let me know.

9psi? Did those trannies have revised synchros and shift forks? I blew my 3rd gear over a year ago at 10psi but it was an early 02 with unrevised parts.

High compression? You're going to have to pull a lot of timing. Talk to LinuxRacr he has been running high compression for a few years and I think he has to pull a lot timing and he's only at 9.1:1. I will PM you the guys I buy most of my parts from. The manifold they sell is ubber reliable, can you say Lifetime warranty....

They most likely were the older trannies. They are out of 96/93 probes so far. The current one I didn't bother to look at the year, just the tranny fluid condition. I pay $110 per tranny plus my own labor to get them out of the car and into mine at home. Reason why I haven't opted for a rebuild. Maybe when I have more time over the summer I will try to learn how to rebuild them and order the revised stuff but I would even worry about that stuff.

what is the stock compression on the MP3 pistons? are they the same as the MSP? If not whats the factory MSP pistons?

shane02pro5
11-28-2007, 10:29 AM
They are all the same 9.1:1 but Mp3 has slightly advanced timing

Jake_isr
11-28-2007, 10:41 AM
So if I keep the same compression just go forged I should be good?

shane02pro5
11-28-2007, 10:49 AM
9.1:1 on a forged motor will keep you limited to low boost. Typically 8.5:1 is the better option and less prone to detonation and will allow higher boost levels.

zoomin MP3
11-29-2007, 11:15 PM
But high boost numbers don't mean much. It's all about tuning and cylinder pressure. The World challange cars run 12.5:1 pistons and turbo. So yeah, forged internals with stock compression ratio is fine.

I just got all the turbo stuff on and the car cleaned up all I need now is one oil fitting I should get tomorrow and then I'm rolling again.
