I'd go to the Forced Induction portion of this board. There's a stickied topic entitled "Thinking of going turbo? Read this" and another one about autos going turbo...you should find some worthwhile info there

Honestly I would never ever put a turbo on an automatic. I know a buddy who did it and it was just plain silly becasue they are geared so low it takes forever to get power if any. You can't launch or hold revs or preload. I don't think you'll get the gains that you're looking for. Trust me I know someone who did it. After making fun of him a lot we went for a drive, then after I made fun more.

But if you still wanna do it, best way is to find someone with a stock MSP boost kit.

he can't go MSP because he has the 1.6L motor.

the best bet, and only right now i think, would be the hiboost kit. since you only want the turbo, I'd maybe TRY to get in contact with them and buy just the manifold, turbo, down pipe, injectors and some kind of engine management.

Just get a 2008.5 Mazdaspeed 3 and be done with it. That car will beat most stuff on the road and with a few mods be a very fast track car.

yeah dude go with a manual...and even if you went turbo on the original car you still would be getting crushed by honduhs. I mean seriously you were just going to slap a turbo on an auto, with no intercooler, and no upgraded exhaust? I know a lot of us are on a budget but damn if you are gonna do something at least do it right!

lol auto 1.6L protege with turbo..... so whats that 87 WHP to 93 WHP? lol I used to own a manual 1.6L 01 protege es. It was slow as balls. Wasn't even worth the time to do anything with. Good winter beater though ;)

no the 1.6 L engine responds well to boost, much better i think then the 2.0

I'll agree, I got a buddy whose making over 450 horse in a 1.6L Vtech 91 integra boosting 18 PSI. But Its the automatic part thats gonna kill it lol. Have you even been in an automatic with boost, its just silly.

Do NOT Turbo a car w/o an intercooler. Your looking into serious trouble if you do, plus the reason for an intercooler lowers the intake temp which actually runs better. Also, If you want any kind of boost, you will want to increase your ECU's fuel map so you can run more then 6 psi w/o leaning out.

what if you make the auto tranny stronger and change the gears? still garbage?
