yeah, the only ones that will fit (especially if it's lowered) are 35 series.

What size tires will i have to get to make them fit? The rims comes with Dunlap M3 Wintersport Tires 225/45R18. Is that too big of a tire?

I believe so. 215/35/18 will fit, though.

WAY TOO BIG unless you raise your car. If you are lowered at all in any way you need a 35 series. I have the rx-8s on my MSP and its slammed on 215/35/18 tires. Looks damn good. I needed spacers in the front because I have aftermarket K-sport coilovers but stock strut setup you dont need spacers I do believe. 225/45/18 is too wide and too thick for 18s on a protege.

Also i would like to point out if you used the search button you would have found at least 5 threads about this already. The MP3 has the same body as the MSP normal 3rd gens and even very similar the P5. This has been quite widely discussed already.

Hmm I don't know about the black, if i was gonna do anything I'd get them polished. Thats just me though, I was never a fan of black rims it always made it look like you had stealies on or made them look really small.

Don't paint..Powdercoat them.
I just sent My RX8 rims out for stripping and fresh powdercoating.
They should be very nice when they return.

Will a 225/35/18 fit?

If you're lowered, you might have rubbing issues. Mine don't rub but they're 215/35/18...very harsh ride.

if you're stock ride height it will be fine, slammed, not so much. I tuck the rims all around with my ksports on mega stiff. Had to roll the fenders with the 215 tire to not rub and they still do sometimes so that will give you an idea.
