View Full Version : Boost Spike

I have the profec b and the boost is pretty much locked in around 12 psi. I occasionally do spike to around 13 which is not a big deal. I can punch it in any gear and the spike will never go higher than 13.

Before replacing my wastegate actuator, i occasionally checked my peak boost (for those who do not know, the profec saves the highest boost value it recorded). A few times i found it to be 16 and 17. WTF No matter how hard i hit boost in any gear, i could never get the car to spike even 2 psi. Then when i randomly checked the highest boost recorded, i found it to be around 16 and 17 psi. The psi always acted normal when i monitored it (i also i have a mechanical boost gauge).

I replaced my actuator because my stock one tore. I hold around 11.5 to 12 now and it spikes up to usually 12.3 to 12.5 and sometimes even 13. Again, not a big deal. I check the spikes regularly now just to keep an eye on it. I found 17 psi again. After seeing the ridiculous spike, i try to make the boost spike as best as i can and it only goes to around 12.5. Yesterday, i checked the spike and it was at fucking 19.2 psi (boom04) WTF! It has definitely been getting colder but that should not cause it to spike 7 psi. On top of which i can never replicate the spike when i try to. Every time i monitor the car, the psi acts normal. But then when i do the random checks on the boost controller it has these ridiculous fucking spikes.

So..... does anyone have any insight on wtf is going on?

I really do not want to be hitting 19.2 psi.
A) i dont wanna put a hole in my block in a day
B) my tune does not compensate for a huge spike like that

thanks

I don't really have an answer for you, but I think if you were hitting 19 psi you wouldnt have to check the profec to tell you that. You would be hauling some major ass lol. The mechanical boost gauge should be the more trusted one so if thats saying you have the right boost then I wouldn't really think any more of it. Sounds like just a glitch in the profec, nothing really to be worried about in my opinion. Especially if you cant make it spike when you try. I mean if you punch it in first and second gear up to 6 grand and can't make it spike then its not going to lol. Even back in the day with my old timey no-name MBC I couldn't make it spike more than 3 psi in first gear. those numbers are just ridiculous.

it just worries me because the boost gauge on the profec reads pretty similar to my mechanical gauge.

also, i have always been able to hit full boost in first gear. even at 12 psi

Oh man this is bringing back to many memories!! I had the same spiking issues with mine...drove me insane. Ok maybe not peaks of 19psi but it would generally peak 3-4psi more then it would hold. I had it set to play back the peak right away....saw some crazy shit. I could never get it to work properly....gave up and removed it.

Goodluck buddy...it's nice gadget, looks cool but that's about it in IMO.

ive gotten the spiking down to a minimal on a regualr basis. its just these huge random spikes it records, i dont see how it can spike so damn high...19 (eek2)

does anyone else have any insight on why this may be occuring?
