Hi im thinking of selling my 2002 Protege dx to get a faster car. I just wanted to how much potential an MSP has as far as performance goes. I found a few in my area for fairly cheap (in the 11's) and was wondering if i should buy one of these or spend a little extra for a wrx or an srt-4. All of my buddies have wrx's and srt-4's so i just want to be a little different and stand out. I really like the body style of the MSP. How much boost can the stock turbo hold and how much power can you make with a stock turbo.

200whp safe
anything over that on stock internals is bound to blow up over time.

If you care more for originality then HP get a MSP... if your into lotsa power then this car is probably not for you, unless you have copious amounts of money and/or aspirin. :D

You could always try test driving each of the cars you think you're interested in to see which one floats your boat. I know, I know - crazy idea.

THIS (http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedan/112_0306_compact_sport_sedan_comparison/) link compares some of the vehicles you mentioned.

if you hate the car so much why dont you get rid of the car......why did you get this car in the first place???
I think this car is worth every dollar i have spent on it.....i love it.....and of course you will have to spend a little more money if you have a not so common car

WRX>MSP>Rubbermaid SRT-4
msp isn't the greatest platform for what you want. Since everybody and their grandma has a WRX, parts should be cheaper. Plus AWD and Turbo for a few grand more? Worth it...........

Well i love the way the car looks and its uniqueness but its reliability is Garbage.
And yes my car is WELL taken care of, and stock to boot.
I don't even wanna get into the argument of this topic just take a look at the forums.Heres a few. (http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50549)

Should also add WGA and LSD to the list as well.

Lets not forget how the fs-de gobbles oil!
That can be fixed with sc millenia PCV and some mini krankvents.

Im not saying dont get the car by all means it looks sweet and is FUN to drive.(When it runs right)

Some get lucky and some don't.
But most don't; if your looking to make mad power then stay away unless your loaded.
If you want a fun street car around 200-225whp then by all means its good.

Either way just make sure you have the cash to fix things when they start breaking.
Don't start by putting intake and exhaust on the car use that money to replace vacuum lines, put motor mounts in.
Do your gauges and plugs. All your precautionary mods first.
I know I didn't list them all but if anyone really wants my advice then you know where to find me.

FYI I'm still and new too, but i READ everyones thoughts and ideas.
And from my own experience tampering around in my engine bay, I have found most to be true and accurate.

P.S. Non personal attack just some friendly info. And backup to my previous statement.

to the TS if your looking for speed FWD isn't the platform to go with. I would get a 240SX and swap a red-top motor into it.

If your looking for Speed, & Looks in a FWD car, i'd go with a RSX-TypeS. All you need is I/RH/E, K-pro and some sticky tires you will be good for mid-high13's.

If your looking for Speed, in a econobox, with a little bit of an eye attention: i'd go with a MSP, WRX, SRT4. Regardless of how many owners own one, One more doesn't hurt adding to the list of owning the car.

If your looking for Cheap speed: I'd buy a Hatch and swap either a K20, or B20 motor into it and from there on with parts shouldn't be hard to find.

My next car will be a Hatch with a K20A or a LS/VTEC swap.
