View Full Version : Vac lines

So next month i plan on redoing all stock vac lines with silicon ones. Is there a how-to on this? Shit-ton of work involved? Just want to know how much time i should set aside and what precautions to take.
Alex
As far as I know, there's no how-to .. It's just a matter of identifying all the vacuum lines and digging in.
It'll prolly be tedious and time-consuming. But isn't that the way it goes with all the MSP mods? ;)
Just make sure you get everything tightened down to avoid leaks. I recommend hairspray. Yes, hairspray. Spray it on the insides of the end of the vacuum lines, wherever they're hooking up to something -- when it dries, it'll make it stick!

When I did my lines I didn't think it was too hard, yes a little tedious but I like the end result. Just take off one stock hose at a time, use it as a template to cut the new line and put the new line in it's place. There pics posted up around , just do a search. If not I can send you a couple.
Rush - I like you hairspray trick, good thinking

man juice is also an acceptable alternative if you don't have hairspray... took me about 3 days to finish the whole car.
I hope no one takes this serious...

If you want to be anal, little zipties on all lines help hold it on the barbs too. But hairspray works, and also works well on boost tubes/charge pipes.

3.5mm (5/32") - majority of vacuum lines on intake manifold
4mm (3/16") - wastegate actuator and emissions lines
6.35(1/4") - PCV and crankcase ventilation

Do you know how much of each by chance...
Crossover Auto says
10ft 3/16
10ft 1/4
20ft 5/32
To me this seems to be WAY to much.
Realisticaly if we wanted to replace them all how much would we need?
Just curious if anyone knows the exact amt.
I think more than 60$ on silicone vacuum lines is redic.
Hairspray huh? thats it no clamps or zip ties? If it works then I'll try it.

It's always better to have too much vac line that not enough. You can use those numbers and just buy the lines somewhere else though for cheaper. Shop around on the net, you should be able to find it cheaper. Personally I would use both hairspray and the smaller sized zip ties.

As Jay said, it is better to order to much the first time then not have enough to get them all done and have to order more. I spent way more than $60 because I cut a couple pieces to short and I didn't order enough the first time to account for any mistakes. I had to place a couple orders before I got the job done which cost me more than I like to admit. And I like to support forum vendors when ever possible but when I went to order from Crossover they were out of blue at that time and shipping was pretty steep so I did some searching and found a really good place which you can check out here
http://www.verociousmotorsports.com/Shop-by-Category/Silicone-Vacuum-Hose/Vacuum-Hose-Platinum-Cured-Silicone
They are the cheapest I found, the quality of the silicone is really good and they shipped quickly with very reasonable shipping charges. I got 20ft of 3.5mm and 10ft of 6mm shipped to me for $55 and some change. It looks like their prices went up a little bit but you should be able to get the 10ft of 4mm for around another $14.

That is correct, it is a knock off Greddy S BOV and I'm running the dual set up with the BPV so I have no stalling or stumbling issues.
And 15 feet of the 3.5 might be enough but I found out the hard way it is better to have to much than not enough.

what you are looking for is silicone lines that won't collapse on themselves. Chances are, if you can buy it at pepboys, autozone, or advacned then you should do better. The real brite shiny silicone lines usually aren't the best, not at that diameter anyways.

If I'm reading the info on the link you posted correctly these are the part numbers you need.
5/32" - VT4B
3/16" - VT5B
1/4" - VT6.
And I wasn't saying Samco isn't high quality, I was just saying Samco costs more and the lines I got from Verocious seemed stronger and the walls thicker.
And subbing is short for subscribing to the thread. If you post in a thread it will send you updates to your email when someone posts something new. Also you have a option on your user control panel to see what threads you are subscribed to so you can find them quicker.

Just Replace Hose by hose with New silicone ones, or use a Vibrant Vac Block just like i have, Easy to install, easy to track what goes where, and since i have so many VAC lines, i´ve decided that Left side of the Engine will use Red Hoses and Right Side Blue, every single item that needs a vac source is getting it propertly and constantly instead of using Millions of T´s.....

you dont need to remove anything.. just follow each vac hose and just replace them one by one. If you want to use Vac Block you only need to provide the Vac Block with a source and that´s it. the rest goes to each place..
