Hi Guys,

Just joined.I just bought a used 2003 Protege LX, 2.0 ltr., Auto and so far I really like it.

I have one question though which is bugging me. The radio antenna is not retracting. I went through the owner's manual and got the impression that it should retract manually without any problem, but somehow mine doesn't. I am afraid to apply excessive force as I might break it.

I do not really care if it does not retract, but will have to tape it to the top of the car before going inside a car-wash.

Has anyone else encountered any problem like this or have any helpful info?

it doesnt retract push it in, and leave it there forever

Ya it's doesn't automatically retract. I left mine retracted the entire time and never had issues with reception. I actually had mine shaved and filled the hole and I still get decent signals without an antenna entirely. I rarely listen to the radio so I opted to do that.

i always have mine in and i still get good reception cd's all the way

Welcome to the forum, I like all have stated above have never had mine out. Since day 1 of owning the car i have left it in and get decent reception.
