I must say I was excited when I recieved my XC CF hood today. That is until I opened the box. The carbon fiber had holes you could see threw in it and in some spaces was stretched . that didn't bother me soo much but when I got the hood on the car the damn striker latch was 1/4 of an inch too short and the hood won't close cause the striker is too short. The instruction paper that came with it sats to take the oem one off my stock hood but thats impossible because its welded on and plus the striker on the CF hood is rivited on. I must say I feel I was shafted outa 900 bucks. (pissed)

OMG...That is terrible. I hope you can return it and possibly get your money back. After yelling at them of course. (pissed)

Are you sure that you just haven't adjusted the latch on the car to catch it properly?
My CF hood didn't close at first too because the latch appeared to be too small... but we just needed to readjust the latch down on the car to catch it.
Worked like a charm.

That really sucks, especially for $900. Yah, be patient and play around with it.

K i managed to finagle it closed, but I still got a few see threw patches on the right side of the hood. I'll post pics when I get my camera from my bro

I know this sounds a bit bad, but my hood had a couple "see through" spots as well... a quick burst of black spray paint on the underside will visually fix it... shouldn't be able to see it with the hood closed anyway unless its REALLY bad, in which case the hood is shit.

You didn't mention any other problem other then the latch to me in your email earlier today. Seems my recommendation to adjust your latch height worked?
Please also keep in mind, that you have an RC style hood. The underbody framing on this hood has mostly been cut away, exposing the underside of the carbon. Places where the gel coat are thinner may allow light through, this is the nature of carbonfibre and is common with every manufacture.
If you have any other problems, please let me know as I said in the email and I'll be sure to help you out.

Yeah I fixed the latch problem, I just may get some black paint for the underside to hid the holes a little better but other then those 2 problems the hood looks great.

I don't know that much about carbon fiber, but I don't think I have ever seen a "perfect" carbon fiber hood. My VIS carbon fiber hood has a lot of little things that bother me, but I have been told that they are normal.

My Gemini Concepts had the best weave I had ever seen on a hood... that being said, it still had a few small problems, mainly the "clear" see through spots in a couple places. But its was a reverse cowl and that is normal as crazy caker mentioned above.
My solution? Paint part of it! ;)

My solution? Paint part of it! ;)Just flat black the underside where needed as metioned..It will fix your light transmission problems.
No worries..it is a characteristic of CF to have areas like that in typical parts for Automotive.
Were not building fighter parts here or F1 bodies..these are strictly for aesthetics in an automotive application.Your not Saving enough weight to make any difference what so ever by using CF parts on a car
Anyone that wants to argue this point..should just give it up now.

CF is suppose to be painted like fiberglass. It is not suppose the be a cosmetic thing. I agree the pattern is cool, but its only purpose is to be a strong light weight replacment.
