So I'm the lucky kid that gets to resurrect Sweetlou's MSP. Blown motor and never fixed. I have about 10ishk to play with to get this car up and running. I'm looking to get about 300ish whp out of it and still be a reliable daily driver. I'm going to start off by getting a built short block and hiboost turbo kit. It already has a welded LSD and I plan on getting a SCT stage 3+ clutch and have the stock flywheel machined to shed a pound or two. My only concern really is the tranny. If i stick in around the 300-350 hp range will it hold up.
I've seen \ searched posts on GTX gears but they dont seem to be much better than stock from what I read. Are there any other more reliable trannys out there that would fit the car or should i just go with the GTX gears?
Thanks for any info

Yeah, I've come to the conclusion that the gears are probably my best bet. I will just have to keep the track runs to a min.

make sure you do a lot of research on the cryo treating. you will spend a lotttt of money fast and it may not even be worth it. there are alot of mixed opinions about the process.

Well i do love to hang some corners, wouldnt mind getting into auto-x if i had the time. It is always fun going up to NE dragway trying a few runs myself and watching my buddy break his evo. Once a summer ritual. But I will probably just do the gears for now and cross my fingers. There are no reputable shops in my area that i know of, so im not sure who to go with. Possibly shep racing if they will even want to touch it.

And most places that cryotreat usually dont do mechanical work.. You'll have to take that to a shop.. Id send them the trans and gears, they cryo it and send it back, you take it to a shop to get installed..

yeah i was just thinking about it. 1000 bucks and i would still have half a$% tranny. I'm not sure the cryo treat is worth it in the end since the problem with the tranny to begin with is the syncros not getting enough lube to keep them from seizing. I think im just going to do the gears new syncros and call it a day. Save the extra money towards a new tranny when this one blows.
