+1, theres nothign wrong with having a car that does 256mph lol, its the fact that you can do it but i bet you that only 2 of those will ever come close to 220 MPH on public roads.

It's one thing for the manufacturer to test it and publish the numbers. It's quite another for some douche with too much money to buy one because "it'll go faster than a Veyron." Even if you legitimately race your car on a track, you're not going to break 200mph.

Yes, I know, but that doesn't make it any more ridiculous. This still isn't going to steal any hype from the Veyron. Just looking at that in a picture, it looks like a cheap POS fiberglass kit car. I would NOT trust that thing to go over 250 mph without a couple of panels flying off.

I guess top speed doesn't impress me nearly as much as a car's ability to achieve Speed X quicker than the other guy. I much prefer the rush of 0-100 to the helpless feeling of hurling across a dry lake bed at 256.

WOW, what a bounch of BS! Why did you buy a Speed version of the 6? Is it because of the performance? I know it's not because of the MPG, you would have gotten the 4 banger.

Keep in mind while the Veyron had the top speed, it was not verified by Guiness as fastest production car in the world. The SSC was actually verified by Guiness and they have some footage on their website to show just how fast it is. They tested it in Washington, but the road had a bend about half way, and the driver that ran it to top speed claimed that if it would have been straight it would have done even faster speeds.

Oh I’m with you lol. But your point is (for lack of better words) stupid! You bought a performance version of the Mazda6, why? Because it was all around better then the regular 6, faster, more handling, more power. My point is you are just as big of a douche (what you called the other guys)as the guys that by this. The only difference between you and them is you CAN’T afford to buy this car lol.
I could see you’re point and would even admire it if you drove something like a Prius. You could then make your point of going that fast is stupid. But you don’t, you drive a performance car. So get off your high horse and quit TRYING to look good. It isn’t working.

Loving this car. Way better looking than the Bugatti. Also, it is not dumb for car manufacturers to try for these speeds. If we went by Tinman's ideas we would still be doing 60mph top speeds and never trying to go any faster. As, long as it is safe, who is this hurting?

I think I can see Todd's point of view too - you have these uber-high horsepower cars that may see the light of day on public roads...do the people that own them actually have the skills to drive them safely? But then again, look at the hp that the new Corvettes, Jags, big Lexus (Lexi?), etc. have...do the folks that are buying them have the skills to drive them safely? (older demographics, slower reaction times, etc.)

But that's just it, that argument is well there is no argument. How many of these super cares are in wrecks V's the cheap 4bangers that people street race in? Once in a blue moon do you ever hear of someone taking their 6-figure car out and wrapping it around a pole. Usually the people that own these do so for the bragging rights, not to actually race them. Hell most of them hardly even see daylight. So I don't see the point at all. And if you look at it from the manufactures point of view, it's good for all. The same technology that goes into these cars is used to make the every day cars.

It's *his* opinion...which he's allowed to have. This is America after all. :D
I am all for gobs and gobs of horsepower personally. Top speed, 0-60, 100-0, it's all wonderful to me. But then again I'm a former muscle car type of girl who loves the effects of big displacement - then combine that with a number-crunching personality and all those statistics get me giddy. :)

I'm not talking about performance in general, dipshit. I'm talking about TOP SPEED. Building a car that goes 250 mph is pointless, because under no circumstances is it necessary, or even remotely safe to do so. Comparing the Mazdaspeed6 (which I no longer own, BTW) to a Veyron or this car is idiotic. The MS6 is a fun to drive, practical sedan that I can take to work every day, run to the grocery store in, and do whatever the hell else I want--it's a performance version of a regular sedan. These cars are none of those things, aside from fun to drive. They have capabilities and performance that is beyond the skill of 99% of all drivers on the road.
I am the last person to argue against performance, however. My point, which seems to be beyond you, is simply this: There's no point in designing a car for top speed. I wasn't talking about acceleration, or handling, or any other aspect of performance--just ridiculous, unnecessary, deadly speeds. An MS6 can go fast enough to kill you, but so can a Prius, and I don't buy my cars to drive at extremely high speeds. I buy cars to accelerate well and handle well.
I'm not saying I wouldn't buy a Veyron, or this car, because I would in a second, if I had more money than I knew what to do with, but it wouldn't be because of the top speed.

I'm not disagreeing with most of what you say, but there are a lot of cases of people in exotics crashing them and killing people. Just not as many, because there just aren't that many on the road. Proportionally, it's probably just as high, if not higher than you'd find in any 4-banger. The difference is, these people should know better, because they are, for the most part, grown men.
Listen, I'm not arguing that these cars should not be built, or that nobody should buy them. Hell, I'll take three of them. But to build a car just to be able to say that it'll do 250+ mph is pointless and irresponsible. If these guys would build in more downforce, which would limit the top speed, it would be a safer car to drive and have better OBTAINABLE performance.

My only problem with this argument is that using your opinion, we shouldn't even make cars that go over 70mph because we have "no need for it." So why even make a car that can go 100mph. It's a slippery slope to say that cars shouldn't even go 250mph.

That's not my opinion at all. I drive 80mph all the time on the highway, and I feel that it's safe to do so. If you were to take one of these cars on a track, you might be able to go 180+. That's fine. The problem is that it takes multiple MILES of straightaway to hit 200+ mph, and there just isn't any place that you can do that. There are plenty of places you can drive a car responsibly at 100mph+--they're called race tracks, and I encourage everyone to do so if they get the chance.

I've stated why already. They won't sell 1000 of these, and many more than one will be wrecked.

Parents can control what 16 and 17 year old kids drive. If they choose to buy their child/allow their child to buy a fast car, then that is a separate issue entirely.
