Cayenne Turbo killer?
Lamborghini already had an SUV for sale more than 25 years ago and today Porsche's Cayenne is a global success. Ferrari hesitated for a long time but has now decided to develop the world's fastest SUV, or so says our Italian contact with insider info. Our DTP expert than set to work with this information and produced the following renderings. The project has been coded the "Ferrari FS 599 Fuoristrada" and its supposed world debut target date is the Geneva Auto Show 2010.
While the five-door will feature four-wheel drive its off-road capabilities are not among the top priorities of the Ferrari development team. Two-thirds of the engine's power is rumored to be transferred to the wide 22-inch high-performance street tires in the rear.
The engine is familiar and hails from the Ferrari F599 Fiorano, albeit in slightly modified form. Its maximum power output of more than 600 hp and 600 Nm of torque will be a challenge for the size 315 tires front and back.
Despite an empty weight of around 2.2 tons the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is supposed to take less than five seconds, thanks to Formula 1-type shift paddles on the steering wheel. Targeted top speed is 300 km/h.
With a top speed such as this the Ferrari FS 599 Fuoristrada would easily eclipse the performance of a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, just as easily as it would eclipse its price at projected 250,000 Euros plus.

You can always tell when a carmaker is ready to augment their revenue....here comes an SUV. I was surprised by the success of the Cayenne, so this one will probably surprise me as well.

Don't think it's gonna happen...people wouldn't look at the brand the same again. It would lose something by creating an SUV.

Sorry to go off topic, but this cracked my ass up. I have two dogs that would react exactly the same, so I'm sitting here giggling uncontrollably

I have to go the other way on this one. I kind of like the design. I think it looks good for an SUV. Now far be it from me to decide if this is a good move for the manufacturer, but as looks go. I approve.

Ok, that thing up there is hideous, but if you read the article, you'll see that the drawings are in no way based in reality, nor is much of the article:
Our DTP expert than set to work with this information and produced the following renderings.
...to the wide 22-inch high-performance street tires in the rear.
...the size 315 tires front and back.
...Despite an empty weight of around 2.2 tons
The first line says that someone from the publication that produced this article made those drawings, not anyone at Ferrari. For all we know the digital artist hates the idea of a Ferrari SUV as much as I do and hideously disfigured it on purpose to create a negative buzz around the idea.
The next three lines I quoted are all factual sounding numbers that mean nothing when there's no prototype, no spec sheet and no drawings from Ferrari to go by. They're making this shit up, and reporting it like facts!
The only informed part of that whole article is
Lamborghini already had an SUV for sale more than 25 years ago and today Porsche's Cayenne is a global success. Ferrari hesitated for a long time but has now decided to develop the world's fastest SUV, or so says our Italian contact with insider info.
The rest is pure speculation, AKA BS!

I don't think it would be a bad move for Ferrari to do. People want SUV's! RICH people want SUV's. But I would not let they guy that made these pictures even in the same building with Ferrari, he might rub off.

i think it's a better idea for porsche to do an SUV than ferrari. porsche is not a supercar brand, the boxster is like $50k, so their $70k SUV fits in with their affluent but not absurdly wealthy owners. i'd imagine they sell way more of the $70k version of their SUV than they do the $110k version so their sales are overall good for the SUV. the cheapest ferrari, on the other hand, is $173k (though there's the long rumored dino) and the 599 is $264k so if they keep the same model of pricing the SUV slightly above their base car it'd be like a $200k SUV. there probably aren't very many people in the market for a $200k SUV though i'm sure there are some. if they want it to be a real success in terms of sales they'd have to cheapen their brand and price it with the cayenne turbo on the south end of the $100ks. if they cheapened their brand to bring an SUV to market their loyal following would not be happy and they're the ones who buy ferraris year after year, take it to them for service, etc...
please god tell me those drawings are fake or completely wrong or something

How about the thinking they can do it just because they can? Comparing Porsche sales to Ferrari? Really now.

I love ferrari to death, I even have ferrari shoes as a proving point to this. But if they build this...I'll die a little bit inside. Either that or it better do 11s in the quarter mile.

...and turn. Don't forget the turning part. Quarter mile times are not what make a Ferrari a Ferrari.

Very very true, and it needs to have a decent top speed...and its an suv. So basically they should just make a minivan next.

Ferrari SUV...That's just Ferrari realizing it's a little too mainstream now...On a side note...I'd love to restore and upgrade one of those Lambo-utes from back in the day. (drive)

A Ferrari SUV, huh?
...and it's going to be fast?
Why? So it can roll over quicker?
i don't really care if they make a SUV....as long as it doesnt look like that.
