I got inspired the other day to see what it would cost me to get a headrest monitor (7in hopefully) inserted into the MSPs headrest...found all the parts I need but nothing that tells me how to do it
after running a few searches in the forum found a few CX-7's buying the ebay prebuilt headrests and just dropping that in but they don't match at all with the MSP, so has anyone tried this? if so how did you do it? what was involved? timeframe...you get the idea
any and all comments appriciated

I would think it wouldn't require too much to install the monitors , you would just have to plan out how you want to cut your headrest to install the monitors so you got it right on the first try. From what I have seen you wouldn't actually cut any of the fabric off the back of the headrest but you would cut an x about the size of the monitor or maybe a little smaller so you can fit it in snugly. The rest would be just running the wires and hiding them to make the installation look clean. Thats just how I would do it.

I can't help you here, don't know much on the topic, never bothered really...because I enjoy sleeping at night..lol!
Just another reason for thieves to bust your windows and steel your shit. Especially in Montreal man, come on...the capital of car thefts/break ins in Canada!! You got great big balls my friend to even be considering this.

+1
I've seen it done like this... Most headrest solutions are pre-fabricated like the cx7 ones your talking about... they are actually universal. And getting a 7" LCD in the headrest wont fit and if it does it would barely fit. Im also thinking about doing this to my vehicle but lack the money

that is a good point, I thought it might be something cool to check out in the long term when I finally run out of things to do to the car LOL but I gotta admit I never thought of the theft angle though....but then again thats why someone created tinted windows LOL

This is a task that is difficult but worth it if you have the time, money and patience. I have only seen it done in one MSP show car and it looked pretty darn sick. I asked the guy a lot of questions on it because I was thinking of the same thing you are...
First off, the 7" monitor will not fit. You will have to go smaller. And the thing to keep in mind is that you not only have to account for the size of the screen itself but also the the housing the screen is in...so go to Best Buy or someplace and take a good look at all their monitors. Some of them are quite deep and wide around the screen.
Second off you have to account for details like wiring, additional head unit brain power to control the monitors, potential for add ons like a ps3, battery power, proper grounding, voltage stabilization, etc...
Third is the upholstery itself, which is probably the easiest step labor wise, but you do only get ONE shot at it...
Haynes Manuals has a division called Haynes XTreme Customizing. In that series is a book called Sport Compact Customizing which is basically and modest HOW TO on all the most popular Sport Compact visual enhancements...Sometimes they are a little vague but overall they do a good job of giving you the 1 2 3 steps with pictures.
They have a chapter on your potential project which might give added support.
But as you probably know, with any mods there are always hidden costs...so just make sure you have it well planned out before you go for it. And give us some pics when it is done!
I hope this helped.
Good Luck!

^^^ thanks this is good info, and things that I didn't originally think about...I think I am going to make a preliminary plan on how one might get this done and post it up for review. I may not do it in the near future but it will help me stay occupied and stop constantly spending $$$ on other things LOL

you are very welcome.
if you would like i can scan that section of the Haynes manual and send it to you.
a well written write and documented write up on the project would probably help a lot of people out. it would give them some first hand knowledge of the do's and don'ts. which is hard to find on our MSPs.
i feel that a lot of money is wasted on projects to correct mistakes...something which better planning could help correct...and saving money is DEFINITELY a good thing!
again, good luck!

7" might be too big. I have 5.6" monitors in my headrests and it is a pretty tight fit.

if you look both of his headrest are all the way down, so I'm guessing that if you were to pull them up a click or two you would be able to see the wires so i bet he ran the wires down the bottom of the head rest and into the seat down the inside of the seat cover and down out the bottom of the seat. then you could run the wires to the seats through the kicker panels or the center console.

Aiight. Here are the four pages of the Haynes Manual on your particular modification. Like I said they are bare bones, but will provide a good jumping off point for your write up.
