paired with the MAzdaspeed CAI, does the Mazdaspeed catback give a noticible gain in Horsepower, ? anyone know?...

also, how loud is the exhaust?, i like the stock Mazdaspeed 3 exhaust, but it is a little too quiet for me

I was under the impression that the Mazdaspeed Exhaust+CAI is around thirty at the wheels? Course, thats only what I've heard.

dkswim, even if it is just a catback its going to help. Not as much as a full turbo back, but turbo cars love to breath, and every little bit helps.

Yeah, I heard the MS CAI and the MS CBE was thirty at the wheels too.

My local dealer said that if I get a downpipe and test pipe, I am ok as long as it has the cat on it. Gotta love these guys...

my understanding is it come from the CAI and not the CBE. beacuse your restriction is in the cats and the 2.5 exhaust before the CBE.

Just get it straight pipe back with 304 ss from the down pipe back w/no cats from Helgie at macon. You should see gains of 22 hp and 40 ft. lbs. of torque. It will set you back about 1500 but it is worth it. And the best part is that you will hear the turbo spool up when you get rid of the stock exhaust w/the resonators. Oh, and don't forget to go with the Toto downpipe

FWIW, I did notice a slight gain with mine.

I won't bull shit you and say it's a performance part as much as it's a "fun" part. It's not overbearing or annoyingly loud. It's just throaty. I love it personally and I hate loud cars.

No. It's very quiet windows up and very quiet windows down if you're just cruising. It only gets louder if you give it gas.

I've seen a lot of downplaying of certain mods as "not worth the money". I think much of it stems from the fact you gain so much from the CAI that it makes other mods seem less worthy for the dollar.

read it in sports compact car when they first tested the car, the mazda techs stated it is the CAI where you are getting the gains and not through the exhaust.

mazda dyno 4.2 whp not much more for sound.......

Buy the Mazdaspeed exhaust. You can always add a DP or test pipe later. Even if it doesn't add a lot of HP you'll love the sound and you'll keep your warranty.

you will get more gains with a downpipe or turbo back exhaust for sure. but when i changed my cat back on my wrx 06 def felt a difference in time for turbo to spool up. It seemed to spool up Noticeably faster than stock. I put the stock exhaust on and off a few times because i had to replace the catback because of defects. and each time i put the cat back from a stock exhaust noticed a quicker spooling of the turbo.

So even though peopel say you dont gain any HP I doubt that. Prob not as much as an intake but it does do something.

I have both the MS CAI and CB... The CB has a nice note and really doesent sound much louder over stock a small bit*** untill you get on it lol ... power gain was not noticable after adding the CB from the CAI ....cant wait for my DP

I installed the mazdaspeed cbe like two weeks ago. For me, I definetly think the car pulls harder ..most noticable from fourth gear on. I guess it feels like it's got a little bit more there just before power drop off around redline. Its a bit louder than stock with more growl and It doesn't have any sort of drone that i've noticed at any highway speeds. Overall I'm happy with it as its just loud enough for me ..kinda expensive but I wanna stay with mazdaspeed parts.
