Anyone know all of the makes and models of compatible trannys for our car. (Ie 2001 mazda 626, or 1993-1997 Ford Probe).

I'm looking to get a spare tranny for my car for cheap from a junkyard incase my diff decides to go.

Thanks.

from what i heard, the 626 goes in and the first ratio is suposed to be longer a bit for fuel economy.. which i think it would be a plus as the one on the msp is kinda short once you got the boost up.

Yeah, I heard the 626 tranny is a good swap. Gotta figure out which years came with the fsde though.

The 626 actually swaps in? Holy shit thats cool as hell! I had no idea. Any idea on years? 1996-1997 had 4 cyl. 5 spd's so i'm guess around that time frame.

well they had 4 cylinder engines till the end of proiduction.. so 2002- 2003 might still have one.. an they should be fsde engines..

the biggest problem is finding one with a 5 speed to begin one..

there almost all auto trannies..

It's actually pretty easy to find one. Just use www.car-part.com and search your local wrecking yards. I found a dozen within driving distance of me (up to an hour away). Prices range from $200-$400.

intresting site !! thx!

when i search for a 2002 tranny they give me 1998's as well.. so it must be the same.

edit:

just thought of something.. if ya swap the tyreanny you're gonna need new axels.. the one in the msp is bigger from the input side(into the tranny) but are they the same size on the wheel side as conventionnal proteges?

The parts catalog does not differentiate between the MSP and regular Protege drive shaft, as it does for other things such as sway bars and struts. The problem comes in that it doesn't have the LSD listed either. Best bet would be to send BAGMAN1 a PM and ask him if there is a difference between the axles and get the part numbers.

Is it even possible?

Rebuild the MSP tranny with welded lsd and swap in 626 1st gear and probe/mx6 5th aswell :p I have heard this to be a good route.
