Hi guys. I just bought my '02 Protege5 w/ 83k miles on her last Saturday from a great dealership here in Ohio and I am in love with this car. And I really like this forum, SO much information! I feel like I'm already a part of the family here. I've been searching all sorts of tips, tricks and mods and am really looking forward to putting together a great car to represent the Mazda family well.
I've already bought a boatload of parts and just waiting for shipping. It sucks living in Ohio waiting for parts from California, I have to wait a week for everything even though Summit Racing is literally 7 minutes down the street from my house.
Here's the parts I've ordered so far and I'll just keep this thread as an update with pics and info as the car comes along.
-Greddy Evo2 catback exhaust (from apexr1.com)
-Corksport polyeurethane exhaust hangers (from corksport.com)
-Kartboy short shifter and shifter bushings (from apexr1.com)
-Mazdaspeed shift knob (from protegegarage.com)
-Catz "replacement" clear fog lights w/ amber bulbs (from eBay.com)
-TEIN Stech lowering springs (from apexr1.com)
-AEM short ram intake (from apexr1.com)
-rear bumper gaurds (from protegegarage.com)
-shorty antenna

Again, this forum is amazing and I'm really glad to be a part of it. (drinks)

I'm just messing with you guys. I actually prefered white, but the only one within 300 miles had hail damage so I said hail no. My last car (a honda Civic, ouch) was red so I didn't really want another red one. There was a yellow P5 around here for sale and I sent my girlfriend a link and her reply included the word "cute" in it so I passed on that color. Haha.

Just face it...(bowdown) 1az0r blue is m0 f4st3r y0! More silvers end up in the F/S section because the owners know they are slower & want to get rid of them in hopes of finding a laz0r blue one or because their silver was so slow, it got ran over. (rofl2)

I got the clear lens Catz with gold 55watt bulbs in them. I saw them on eBay and contacted the seller and he set up a pretty good deal for me, $150 shipped with spare bulbs. I installed them on my lunch break, in the rain. Haha, the install was pretty easy, took about 45 minutes. It's basically a direct bolt in, you just have to add a few washers to make the housing clear the bumper a bit more than the OEM fogs.
The SS install was pretty simple too, took about 45 minutes as well. I shot all the bolts with PB Blaster as a precaution and everything came out easy. The only tricky part was actually lining up the 6 screws to put the console back in. The shifter seems a bit clunky, but it sure is better than the stock throw.
I'll take pictures when I get home sunday night.

The console can be a pain. I had to take mine out & put it back in several times from my SS installation (I let my Brother do the install...but that's all in another thread). I wasn't sure about the SS after it was installed because it felt different. After about two weeks, I got used to it & love it.

Here's some pics. I haven't had a chance to do the fog light wiring mod yet and I have to add another washer or two to the mounting bolt on the housing to get them to point up more, so the pics aren't all that great. And I'm going to pull the console out and make a washer to hold the shift boot flush against the bottom of the shift knob. Just not enough time in the week...
I'm getting my exhaust, intake and springs on monday though. Muhaha!

You could probably get a "C" clip from the auto parts store that will hold your shift boot flush with the knob. My SS came with one & the shifter had a groove for it to go in, but I have seen them in the auto parts store when I was trying to find a new one to hold my shifter in place because mine was jacked. They were cheap, too...Like $1.

Yeah...But you notice it's the two of us & our yellow P5s that do all the threadjacking? I guess they are going to start calling us the "Yellow Threadjacking Bandits." LMAO! What's the number to your lawyer...I may need him. (boom04)

Well, got my exhaust, intake and springs in today from ApexR1.com (http://www.apexr1.com) Let me first say that Jeremy and the boys over at that shop do a great job. Living in Ohio, I have to order all my parts online and they did a great job shipping them to me quickly and answered all my emails within a few hours. I'll certainly be buying more toys from them.
The GReddy EVO2 took about an hour to install by myself. The sounds is exactly what I was hoping for. I can feel the gains in the mid and upper rpm's. The install was very easy and I'm really pleased. I'll be getting some video up tomorrow. It was dark and raining when I got it done tonight. Then I installed the intake. Again was a piece of cake, took about an hour to install, but I do take my time. I'm really happy with the gains and the car really pulls MUCH more now. Especially in the upper rpm's.
Springs are this weekend...
ps- I've got two Corksport urethane exhaust hangers if anyone wants to buy them for $20 shipped. I only needed two.

I've been so busy with family and playing shows with the band I haven't had time. I'm probably going to go to the shop and fix a few little things then order some new endlinks for the spring install. I like to have a bunch of money saved in case something goes horribly wrong then I can replace it.
Does making a new friend with a 22v P5 who lives 8 minutes away count as a mod? Haha

Well SATimko and I went out to take some pics tonight. A lot of them turned out blurry with my point and shoot Casio and the temperature being 31' and windy here in Ohio...
SATimko's P5 is the one with the MSP wheels.

I've got the TEIN Stech springs at the shop but am going on tour with my band in my car for week so I wanted to wait. Plus I'll use my quarterly bonus and tax return for struts and a sway bar and just do the whole kit and kaboodle.
