i installed an injen cai tonight.... double checked my work and took it for a spin, the problem im having is that the car 'boggs' and it doesnt go in the power range like it should.!!?? i have the split second afc, and a mid catless mid pipe, if it matters... any ideas what it is?
plugs??
ps..
the car never acted like this with the stock air box

Triple check your work as something most likely is not as snug as you think it is, also reset your pcm. Did you notice if the idle vacuum and boost under acceleration was different now vs prior to install. Check all of your connection points while your at it, not just the CAI.

Check to see if you re-connected the MAF!!
I know I always forget to plug it back in.

thanks, looks like i did need to triple check my work :-) but still, my car FEELS a little slower, or is it just me??

The stock MSP intake is very good. I have heard you will lose low end torque with CAI, but gains up top will make it worth while. If you mean lag well i would expect that with longer piping.

Injen was the first mod on the car for me a long time ago, but I didn't experience any sluggishness or other issues.
How many miles do you have on the car msp_rad?

You need to retune.

You need to retune.
do you really think that?? cause like i said, it runs great with the stock air box.
and if it is the tune,,,, protoge garage will be able to do that for me with my split second aft, right??

i got a video of the way its acting,, hopefully the link works... this is with just a split second aft, catless midpipe, and injen cai... notice how it boggs, and doesnt wanna move when i shift into second.

Clutch slipping? I dont know for sure but have you though about that? You still have stock clutch, how many miles are on it?
I'm on campus, so I can't see the video .. but is your car bucking along with bogging?
If so, Sam is probably right. You likely need to retune for your mods.

did you reset your ECU? unplug negative terminal cable, step on brakes a bunch of times. wait 5 mins and then reconnect the battery.

Have you had that check engine light checked out? Maybe it's something with that.

You didn't mention that you had a CEL, was that there prior to the CAI install? Either way you need to go to AutoZone and get it read for free and come back and let us know what the code is . Are you still running the original spark plugs and pcv in the car?
I'd get the car running right before playing with the AFC. Tune or no tune the car should not run like that simply by installing a CAI, something else is causing it to hesitate when you shift to second.

thanks for your replies, i will look into all of these.
the check engine light was on prior to the intake install, its on because of the catless midpipe, and ran great up until the intake installl

Ok for that CEL you can eliminate it with a trip to the auto parts store and pick up HELP #42002 antifouler kit and a 1/2 drill bit. Use both pieces and bore out the hole in the piece that the 02 threads into and thread that into the other piece that threads in to the catless pipe. Then reset the pcm.
Something else for you to check would be that your exhaust manifold is on tight. 12mm wrench, 5 bolts on top and 5 on the bottom. I just like to eliminate the simply possibilities before moving on to the complex ones. 9 out of 10 times the cure is simple. Change your plugs/pcv if you have not already, check all connections and vacuum hoses and fix the CEL.

this morning it was about 60 degrees outside, the last few nights only 45...
can it be something to do with the weather,, even though im on stock boost
thank you in advance

check engine codes P0421 and P0171
any ideas now??????
BOOSTR

P0171 could be MAF, but most likely its your wastegate. See the pdf in the ProtegeGarage section on here. P0421 is most likely caused by your catless pipe(especially since you are not using the MIL or antifouler method) but could also mean your sensor is bad(doubtful with 51K).
Quit driving the car aggressively until you check and replace the WGA if needed. Install either the MIL or antifoulers. Clean your 02 sensor. Change your plugs if original.

the wastegate was changed under warranty about 3000 miles ago,
if its the maf, than why doesnt it throw a cel with the stock air box???

I cannot tell you why as I was not involved with the install. But that said I would try cleaning the MAF & 02 sensors
install the MIL or antifoulers, replace the plugs & pcv and confirm that there are no vacuum leaks first. Reset the pcm after doing all of that and go from there. I am not suggesting that you replace either the MAF or 02 because of the cels. A can of electronics cleaner, 4 plugs, and a pcv are a lot cheaper than a MAF and 02 sensors.
