Just and idea here but could the turbo setup from a Mazdaspeed fit if you did the following mods/additions:

Custom turbo manifold
Oil bung in oil pan
some custom piping
additional oil and coolant lines
piggy back/stand alone

I havent' really explored it but I was thinking about it tonight in my quest for more horsepower. Any ideas, thoughts, comments, flames, etc?

so pretty much the only thing you would be using is the stock turbo, intercooler, and bpv or bov

yeah it would work but like Stealth pointed out it sounds more custom than using the msp setup. if you have a 1.6 and want to go turbo contact biknman, he still might have his dp/turbo/mani for sale. and probably other stuff as well.

True it does sound custom now that you put it that way. I was just trying to figure a "not so expensive" way other than the hiboost kit. Although the hiboost kit is pretty complete. I checked out biknman's old setup but I didn't like the way the turbo was sitting. Is there a reason he set it up top versus below like most applications?

I agree with the above posts: If you were going to go with a custom manifold why not run a bigger turbo, nice FMIC. I have not seen any cheap turbo kit for the 1.6! Hell going turbo is not cheap in the long run anyway ;)

Good luck,
Rob

True that. I might just go custom all the way so I can pick and choose what I want plus I can take my time.

IMO that is the way to go, Do it right the first time and get everything you want!! My turbo has been changed 2 times majorly so far and is undergoing a huge change right now. Wasting alot of money each time!! If I would have done it right the first time in the long run I would have saved over 2K.
BTW this is my 5000 post ;) Yeah me!!

Take your time and do it right, you will be alot happier in the long run!
