Bolt to the stock exhaust yes. I know there has been some testing with the stock downpipes and stock cat backs. The mid pipe uses the stock style pivot joints.

I do not have vid/sounds clips of the mid pipe yet with our other exhaust products.

Curious as to why you guys didnt add a flex joint piece on there? Well flexing cause this piece to crack? Also, no o2 bung for a wideband?

Ok, well you guys better hurry up, Nov 19th is just too far. I just got your downpipe in the mail today, and now I just wished I had wait for a little more, seeing how the mid-pipe is coming out, hoping that there would be a down-pipe/mid-pipe combo, but I guess I just have to wait :( lol

Because a flex joint is not needed when using the pivot style flanges like OEM....

Seeing how much the engine torques, i dont necessarily agree with your statement. RWD drive i could see this statement being true, but on the MS3 i have to wonder. I guess time will tell.

The mid pipe we offer has the pivots on the inlet and outlet like the stock catalyst does.

Does anyone just run a mid pipe with stock downpipe and cat back? I'm considering doing this since it’s an easy mode then later when I have the time I can get a downpipe. Also with all the issues lately about the MS3 smoking after installing a downpipe has got me worried. Also this thing needs a o2 bung for a wideband. That is a must.

Okay so im a big old stinking noob, but i bought (and just received!!!) my corksport DP and exhaust, where the hell does this thing go? I thought i had the whole deal :(. I thought it was turbo>DP>exhaust. Is this hard to install after the fact or am i just overly confused?

test pipes / mid pipes go in between the down pipe and catback exhaust system.

we were planning to add hangers to our pipe, but in light of our commitment to Corksport products and the price point / quality being offered here, we will likely be discontinuing our own test pipes upon successful retail release of this model.

just so you guys know.... you can pretty much drive to your local muffler shop and have them weld a 2.5-3'' pipe in place of the second cat and get the same exact results for WAY WAY WAY less money. Just thought i would share.

Can someone expand on this...? Why two cats?

Yeah...and that shop could get shut down in .0103 seconds if they got caught. It is a criminal offense to remove emissions items like the Cat. when you are a repair/retail facility.

the car has a cat in the downpipe with an o2 before and after it. The car also has another cat in the midpipe....why is it there? I think its for CA emissions.

Yup, for the ULEV, it think that's the acronym somewhere on my window sticker.... Ultra Low Emission Vehicle...(am I missing a letter?) lol Anyways, I noticed both cats when I installed my MS CBE system. Needless to say, I'm going to go with the Corksport DP w/hi-flow cat since, from my understanding, it'll delete one CAT, and provide me with a hi-flow cat replacement. $600+ is steep for a pipe, but we've all heard it. "You've got to pay to play." Yay to California emission laws!!! (yupnope) (bang)

As long as the shop removing the cat states "offroad use only" on the receipt, they are not liable....

I spent $60 at a local muffler shop to get this removed... and a section of 3" tubing welded in it's place. Only downside is you can't just unbolt it to go back to stock... it will cost another $60... so if you care about going back to stock easily, the midpipe is the way to go!

Haha, yeah suppose i owe it to you guys. Ill see what i can do, it was a bitch to install but so worth it. Anyone else smell kinda a burning smell when they put theirs in? I figure its the new gaskets heating up and what not because i cleared all the wires. I think i need to get some heat wrap too for the DP. Ill ask around and see what i can come up with camera wise because you guys DO NOT want a video from my camera phone. I gotta short shift first because its just tire spin and then in second around 4500 the tires break lose again and spin until i shift. Third chirps harder and has a real HOLY HELL kinda feel to it. Very choice. Cant wait for my CAI to show up. Its gonna be insane.

Thanks brother. You gotta get on that, i have NEVER heard an import sound like this. Its like a supra and a 69 charger had a baby. Not ricey, and not quite muscley but a tasty in between. I have to go find a tunnel tomorrow LOL! The VTA BOV makes it perfect. Im wasting so much gas because i dont wanna down shift! Throw a stiff rear engine mount in the mix to give just the right amount of cockpit vibration and you feel like you are sitting on a powder keg.

Hey Demi, im guessing you did the install yourself, how long did it take you to do the install on the downpipe ??? if so what did you use to raise the car?

Yeah i did the install myself, with two buddies it took me 5 hours to do the downpipe, exhaust, and rotate the tires. However i suppose it should be mentioned that everyone of these guys, myself included, are aircraft mechanics. Figure on 8 hours. I have access to a lift. You will want it in the air a bit. I would think its possible with jack stands albeit not much fun. Also i found that it was unnecessary to drop the alternator or loosen the belts like the instructions tell you. I just removed the heat shield/ tubing from the alt and pushed it aside. Also it was easiest to pull my mid pipe and drop the crosssection to get the DP out. I cant remember if thats what the directions said, i stopped following them half way through and just kinda figured it out as i went. The actual removal of the DP is the biggest PITA. You have to flip and turn it all kinds of crazy ways to get it out, but because the new downpipe is missing the cat its super easy to get in. Be advised that the bottom forward nut on the DP must be installed first. You will understand when you see it. The washer hits the DP so you have to get the pipe at an angle to get the nut started.

Hm, someone help fill me in here please... how many DP and mid pipe options are there out there for us?? Corksport's DP is the nice one with the divorced wastegate and high-flow cat, right? And are any mid pipes available with a high-flow cat?

lol thats funny i did a full exhaust on jackstand solo in 7 hours. Taking food breaks, and random cursing breaks lol. I never removed the alternator either, just the shield. As for removing the stocker....its alot easier if u remove the crossmember, 4 extra bolts and the stock dp basically falls on ure face.

I just heard a friends corksport exhaust on his 1.8L GTR engined Protege/323/escort gt (long story), it's a 2.5" system but sounded damn good. He has their dp, a high flow cat, and their cat back. It has sold me on getting the corksport exhaust for my ms3 when the fundulation allows it. I want a cat in there so the dp might have to be cp-e, but the sound out the back won't change much.

Yeah the Corksport has the divorced piping, and calling this a highflow cat is a bit of an understatement. Its more of a straight pipe. Its a 3" hole with a cat around it lol. I know that the Corksport mid pipe is due out this month (28th i think) but it doesnt have a cat, it deletes. But you would still have that one "highflow cat". I have no idea what would show up on a emissions test, but it looks legit if you poke your head under there.

Well i dont have a calibrated ass or anything so this is just speculation, but i dont remember being able to break the tires loose in second just by squeezing the throttle. I remember being able to break em doing hard shifts, but now i can just be rolling along and punch it in second and they start hopping away. So much so that i made my CD player skip. Seems to be a little meaner these days, but my memory isnt great. I think there is a difference.

Well i can tell you like this. I installed the downpipe and exhaust as my first power adder mods and i found that i could now break the tires loose by squeezing the throttle in second while rolling along. I just got my CAI in and now i can break traction in third, and i dont mean while shifting, i mean when it gets up to 5000+ they break loose......im very impressed.

Don't you have it...?

I've been hearing so many good things (great power gains) about DP and mid-pipes that I got convinced on doing this mod...
Plus I needed another MS CAI power mod fix... :D

From all the available mods, TMIC or Fuel Pump, mid-pipe, (no PnP available yet), the DP seemed the next logical step...
I was forced into buy CP-E version (I liked CS version much better) due to the cat option... Didn't want my car to wreak like fuel...

The testpipe looks like a good install, but it appears that bang for the buck, the best exhaust mod is still the manifold. Major headache to install, but the results are off the hook. If I scrape the cash together for major exhaust changes, I am starting there. Once that's in place, any other exhaust improvements are just going to enhance its effect.
