Hey, I wasn't exactly sure where to post this so I just wanted to appologize if this has been misplaced before I get a bunch of people jumping down my throat. I just had a quick question and needed a couple of opinions. If a Speed 3 and an SRT8 Jeep Grand Cherokee were to do a 1/4 mile sprint, who do you think would end in the lead?
Again thanks for any opinions.

from what ive read, jeeps do a 13.5 seconds in the quarter mile...
pretty damn impressive.
So stock for stock, the srt8 would be faster.

I tried to get around one once at merge and didn't make it, so I'd bet on the jeep.

srt-8 definitely wins but we save alooot of money compared to that piece of machine(yupnope)

the jeep would win but then it would need to fill up the gas tank so in reality we win...
seriously though those srt8's are pretty bad ass machines and are extremely quick!!

I was messing around with one of these a couple months back (when I was stock). Once we were already moving (40+ mph), we both gunned it and he would start to pull on me very slowly. Now that I have an ms cai, I think if I were to meet him again it would be dead even (from a roll), maybe with even a slight edge to the ms3.
One other thing...I don't know if he had aftermarket exhaust or what but it was one LOUD motherfucker when he got on it. Sounded pretty nice, too.

LOL...if you get a chance to race him again from a dig...video it cause if he has an exhaust on it and most likely a simple intake that thing can run in the 12's with a good driver. you are underestimating that thing (upbum)

I messed around also with one, and with my mods without the standback he was on my ass past 100+. So yes they are quite fast...

Off topic... But I burned an RX-8 on the highway this past weekend, giant 6 lane straight stretch, about 8am, nobody on the road. We were next to each other and toying around, then I just downshifted to 4th and ran her up to 5600, then 5th, then 6th, all the way to 143. It was the fastest I've ever been operating a vehicle, and he kept up, but he couldn't stay with me, he lost inches by inches by inches. From side-by-side at 68ish we ended up at 143 I was about 30 yards ahead. I downshifted and slowed, just off throttle, and he got up next to me and rolled his window down. We matched at about 75 and he was loving it, I flashed him a thumbs up and a peace sign, and he yelled, "GodDAMN that's a fast hatch!" I yelled thanks and smiled; this was great because he was about mid 50's and just seemed like his 'crisis' car. He was a good sport about it all; we had a Mazda owners connection. Made me proud to have my little Akemi-chan. :)

If I had the cash to shell out for an SRT Cherokee, I'd up the ante to:

That's gotta be sa-weet.

My friend has the magnum, and the transmission is terrible, I wouldn't shell out any money for any SRT.

Your only chance of beating that Hennessey SRT-8 is to run through some standing water, and watch that sucker hydrolock...

Look what the Jeep SRT-8 can do stock and modded.

lol I was going to ask why you would think that, then I noticed the intake filter on the compressor housing under the car....
hydrolock FTW?

Those times make perfect sense and match what happened to me when I was playing around with that srt. Low low 13's, even with exhaust, but still only trapping 102. I honestly think from a roll, if both the srt and ms3 have light mods it should be a dead heat. Obviously from a dig they have the advantage.

Light mods? Cmon, you need a blower or juice to pull 11's in that pig. they are AWD and quite quick, but surely wont get you in the 11's with a few bolt on's, thats for sure. IF you plan to run juice in this, youre bound to crack the ringlands. Few of my buddies have run SRTs. One with a supercharger and the other with nitrous. Wasnt very long until they needed a rebuild. The pistons are quick weak like the old 32V modular motors prior to the 03/04 cobras.

Reviving an old thread.
If anyone is still wondering I just finished racing one.
I got SRI on 18psi.
From a 80ish-90ish I downshifted to 5th, and we went at the same time. dead even the whole freaking time till 130mph that we hit a nascar curve in the highway and he had to let off. tee hee.
Next was a roll around 50ish, all I know is I was in 4K rpms in 3rd gear. I honked and were off. I was at his rear bumper, wasnt falling back, if anything I was reeling him in but I doubt that as well. I think his AWD NA freakin SRT8 (V8) engine has immediate power while I took a bit to catch boost, once I did he stop the small pull.
Then I wanted to go by a 40mph or 35mph, thats my favorite roll to my advantage. He said that he rather do a dig. I thought he was heavy, had more power, both AWD cars, should be fun. WRONG! I out launched him, shifted to 2nd and he reeled me in, and pulled me nasty style. 3 cars by 110mph or so. Those things MOVE! I dont know if it was because I sat on the light and then aside on the road talking to the dude a bit that created heatsoak, or that I dont have much tire tread left, but he beat me good.
The guy told me he used to own a MazdaSpeed6 as well with fujita, testpipe and 18psi with fuel cut def. and traded in 2 weeks ago for the jeep. thought that was interesting.

Jeep loses hands down. Just make sure there are some curves somewhere along the way. It's not all about straight line people...what is this? The 70's? Some of you really need to go to some road courses, and move away from states with straight roads.

Those Jeeps are nasty. My buddy has a Trailblazer SS with a tune, CAI, and catback. He eats my lunch off the line and from a roll he gives me fits til we start getting up in speed. I know the Jeep is quicker than the SS. Something tells me the Jeep would check out on an MS3.
BTW, I love the "we getter better gas mileage" and "the MS3 handles better" comments hahaha.
No fucking shit! We're not talking about that now are we?

My thoughts exactly! Run these two on a road course and a MS3 wins without even getting out of 3rd gear lol!

Well if you were dead even from a roll-on with the ms6, an ms3 with similar mods should definitely fair better against that jeep. From a dead stop though, an ms3 with street tires will have some serious catching up to do.

i saw one of these things on the highway and i was cruising at about 70.. he was tailgaiting me and i thought he was just trying to be an idiot so i went right after him when he cut me.. and holyyyyy crap! i can't tell u how fast these things are on the highway.. i was going 125mph (cai,ss) and cutting in traffic and i still couldn't catch it... he was probably going 140-150 in traffic..and yea, the exhaust is loud as hell!

another thing is that this car from what I'm reading this is just as fast as a viper! why are we comparing our car to vehicle that's as fast as a viper. I wouldn't dare try to run with a viper. I know the limits of my little red rocket!

This car is impressive because it moves as fast as your car but except its a freakin SUV that looks like evey other SUV out there, except when you hear the exhaust note.
But in term of quickness, with a test pipe, upped boost and intake you can sure beat one from a roll. Now from a dig, I dont know what the fck if up witht that, those jeeps mock the laws of physics. I mean, they haul ass off the line. Dont know why, it should be the other way around right? wtf

You wouldn't even try to run a Viper with this Mazdaspeed 3 and just a few more mods?
