A few months ago, I had a completely new audio system installed. Since then, I'd occasionally start my car only to hear nothing but my sub firing in the trunk. a popping sound from the front passenger door would always precede this BS.
For a while, I couldn't figure out wtf the prob was... until it hit me! Since this was only on occasion... I started to think what the one constant was. low and behold.. rain. (or a carwash) after a few strategic car washes, it was clear.
What's not clear is... why is this happening and how can I fix this? I'm assuming water is getting into the door through the rubber surround. Thing is, water could easily get through ANY door (including my driver) this way. Since the place I had my stuff installed is temporarily closed, I can't bring it there. Everywhere else will charge me... so I'd rather go the DIY route.
has anyone had any experience with this? The thing that sucks the most is... I'm thinking about getting a MS3 but can't sell this car (in good conscience) in this condition. Telling a would-be buyer (in which the audio system is most likely a selling point) that it's not going to work when it rains pretty much assures me a no-sale. Then again, not telling him would bring bad karma... I already took the door apart to see what's what. Nothing looked out of the ordinary so I suppose the next step would be to... Idon't know, wrap the wires in some sort of plastic wrap or something. sort of ridiculous that I even have to do that though.
