Are any of you running the yellow fog overlay with yellow bulbs? How does it look? Anybody with just yellow bulbs? Pics?

I just got the car a couple of weeks ago and love it but the color of the fogs are such an eyesore to me. I'm trying to get the most yellow color possible without going HID...

As of right now, I',m thinking of getting these yellow bulbs

Thanks in advance...

I have just regular yellow bulbs, they just look like bright halogens. I have a set of yellow rockblockers coming in the mail, should make them much more yellow.

Overlays will make a bigger difference than bulb color, because they can only put so much color on the bulb. Too much would cause it to overheat and burn out.
That problem doesn't exist with overlays, so it can be a thicker film.

^ive heard of the batmans and rockblockers melting and wrinkling due to the heat of the bulds. thats why i went with laminX. they are very thick and better quality IMO then the other two

where did you read that? Post it please.

I am using Nokya Hyper yellow bulbs with yellow overlays on my P5. They look good. The yellow overlay is only to get the effect when the car is off otherwise the colour output is the same with or without the overlay.

I've had yellow rock blockers since early dec and have NO melting issues. Looks only. They don't change the light color much at all.

SNike05
10-10-2007, 01:01 AM
are they turning brown close to the centre?

J-protege
10-10-2007, 01:24 AM
Rockblocker used to sell thin film for looks only. That stuff can melt because of how thin it was.

They have stopped selling it due to that fact, and now only sell the light protection film, colored or not.

The current film is 21mil, so it wont burn or melt or wrinkle - just had a bad rep from past product that has been dropped.

Not a fan of the stock "fog lights" either.

Yellow H3s are tough to find. You may be better off with replacing the entire fog light with a set of yellow CATZ or PIAA fogs.

I also have yellow rockblockers on mine. They seem to work just fine. When I initially replaced the stock bulbs with the so-called yellow bulbs, I saw no difference in color. I like the rockblocker for the added protection it offers.

I'm running with Rockblockers yellow film, and, personally, I like it. Could def use somebrighter bulbs though. But, the yellow is nice. Here's pics of it in the day with the lights off. I'll try to get pics with them on at night.

I've got the yellow rockblocker film on my Speed3. Looks nice, same lighting output as before the films were put on. I've got an extra pair of yellow fog light film, extra set ordered accidentally. Still brand new, any one want them, I'll sell it to you for what I got it for. (cabpatch)

Anyways, the rockblocker films work great, have them both installed on my MZ3s as well as my Speed3. The ones installed on my 05MZ3 have been on for 2 and a half years, and still look brand spanking new. I expect them to last just as advertised, for the life of the car. I'm expecting the same results for my Speed3. I'll post pics for ya later of the yellow fog light film on my Speed3 if you want. Or did someone already post it? I'm at work, so I'm gett the red "X" boxes.... (confused)

they are a set of ebay 8000k bulbs. lol. i got the sport trim and the only thing i wanted from the gt trim was the hids. i know they are not the best performing 4500k hid bulbs and could be considered "ricey" by some, but i love them and get compliments all the time. they are significantly better performing than the stock halogens too.

uh oh, i hope the hid police doesnt come and take me away! (some of you know what im talking about)

Install took just about 10 minutes longer than regular bulbs since i had to mount the ballast and run the harness. No mods were necessary to the inside rings at all.

I thought that might be an issue... now that i think about it, it might look good but would be silly to have red in the front. Red goes in the back!

here are my opinions on this...

I work for a firm that represents one of if not the premier automotive lighting manufacturer in the world. over the years i've heard it all and formed some opinions and ideas that i feel are pretty strong. first and foremost, the best thing to do in a halogen housing is to use a non-hid setup for many reasons, but mostly it's for light management and glare reduction. however, i know a warning against using hid will go in and out many of your ears, so i'll move on.

for 9006, such as that in the ms3 fogs, the brightest, whitest and safest bulb you can get is a 9012 HIR bulb from toshiba (available from the great people at www.rallylights.com). a 9012 is basically a 9006 with one tab too wide that needs to be trimmed for perfect fitment. notice i mentioned white light; while colors that lean toward the low temp yellow/amber region are generally considered superior for 'low light' and cutting through weather, the game changes when you compare a brighter bulb of slightly higher temperature to a lower wattage amber bulb. that is why the old Hella yellowstars in the crazy wattages used to be SOOO incredible, because they were crazy wattage, super bright and so intensely yellow, but they burned harnesses and posed a great danger to the greenies in Europe, so they are now a thing of the past. anyway, the reason i prefer the HIR because the white is just so intense while not stressing wiring (because the wattages are reasonable), and on a side note they do not leave a blue hue in the reflector/housing when the light is off like most of the high performance white light bulbs out there.

so it's my opinion that an HIR bulbs in the fog, with laminex film for protection and hue would be ideal. if you used yellow film you are essentially recreating the light that the awesome "old" hella yellowstars made- super bright and very yellow.

additionally, HIR bulbs are available for 9011 (9005) fitment, so those with GT's can enjoy wonderfully white high beams to go along with those factory HID's.

for those with sport models, there is a bulb also made by Osram called the 'hyper'. though the name sounds 'ricey', it is indeed NOT. what they did is essentially take an h9 capsule and put it on an h7 base, so you have a bulb that will put out approximately 40% more lumens than a compareable 'high performance' bulb, but only using 10 more watts.

to give an idea of HIR and Hyper performance, here is a subaru forum link that is a great testimonial- http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread/t-164266.html

I doubt you will find this product in any store if you do it will cost you a lot. Something like the 3M front bras. But on the other hand its nothing special you can find the material in a local store and cut it for yourself.
