i posted a few below asking how to brighten the dash lights too.
i haven't tried the suggestion of the 194R (amber) bulbs or regular 194 bulbs (clear?).
I did take apart the dash and found all the lights in working order. I removed the orange bulb condoms and they are now a little brighter, barely enough for me to notice.
I'm thinking it's not the lighting but that white gage faces provide horrible contrast. If the black painted trim around each of the numbers was a little thicker, it might be easier to read at dusk, etc. And brigher bulbs will just give us night blindness. if/when i get around to trying brighter bulbs i'll drop an opinion.

You need 2 '194' bulbs, and 2 '74' size bulbs.
Get them in whatever color you want, LED is most likely the brightest way to go.

if you're still under warranty (which you probably aren't) bring it back to the dealer and make up some bs about how they've lost a lot of brightness. a couple years ago, mine really DID lose a lot... in fact, half of the freakin guage wasn't even lit up! so they replaced them with leds that made everything MUCH brighter.... tech said it was a common problem and that mazda had a fix in place.
