wing or no wing?

hey, so i have a winning blue mazda 3 and it has no wing on it right now..
my boyfriend said he would buy me one, but how it looks without one is starting to grow on me.. so i'm kind of in a dilemma..

opinions on what you think looks better would help =)

i do like the mazdaspeed spoiler, im not sold on the regular 3 spoiler... i just have a regular 3, and i dont want to put a mazdaspeed spoiler on it.. lol

i dont think it matter if you have a speed3 or not, if your getting because of looks its a good way to go compared to any other aftermarket wings available which probably look really horrible. a speed3 wing along with a nice set of rims and lower springs would really make your car look great

I agree with the general consensus... adding a wing (even a modest one) won't compliment your car very well. When you look at the MS3, it works because of the bigger wheels, bodykit, etc. A base 3 just doesn't have the necessary level of aggressive add-ons to balance the look of a wing. (it would be like adding an evo wing to the back of a base last gen lancer.) without everything else, it just looks stupid.

so if you're going to stick with your 3 (and not get an MS3) stick with your 3... it's a great car in its own right. don't try to make it something it's not. embrace what it is...

a decent set of (at least) 17" wheels will set you back a min of $500 Combine that with the equally important (in order to make the wing actually 'fit' the look of the car) bodykit (which are also quite pricy) and suddenly you're inching your way closer and closer to MS3 (sport) territory.

A lot of people turn their base proteges/3s/etc into cars that look (and drive) even better than the performance variant. The problem is, when you tally it all up, they probably could've bought 2 of the mazdaspeed versions. For many, that's not a factor. Maybe they have a ton of disposable income... or maybe they just like being in debt. One thing's for sure, they like the individuality that having a truly unique car provides.

Since it doesnt' sound like you fit either of these categories, I say skip the wing (and wheels, springs, etc.) Unless you can afford to make the car LOOK similar to a MS3, it's not worth half-assing it.

i agree with you u, if u go for wing u must go for the package, but your car doesnt have to look ms3 if u dont want make it ur style but stock with wing will look gunny get lowing springs rims and then wing and exhaust will be nice
like my ss looks stock but if u pop my hood i have supercharger and its 500 hp i didnt even put rims on it its all stock cuz if i do rims and no lowering springs or anything like that its wil look like wana be and im not one of them

well thanks.. lol.. but i think i might just lower her & put on some bronze(?) rims.. i think i'll hold off on the spoiler for now...

another question though.. i just put in a short antenna, then i seen a m3 hatch with no spoiler with a shark fin antenna, i dont like it AS MUCH as on the sedan m3, but i think i like it better than the short antenna.. any opinions?

i love to drive and having a manual is def a lot more fun/entertaining than an auto. but as you said, u shouldnt pass up a good deal esp when its within the budget. and seriously....if its the car u wanted to get, the difference between manual and auto is miniscule in comparison to other things. but back to the wing...if you get one as ive said, just get a lip spoiler. it wont be overdone and it will give it a little more.....edge. if you want to go for rims that would make it look dope too. the color of your car is beautiful and a bronze rim would make that car shine among the best of them. good luck with your decisions. cars are money buckets and the choices are endless.

why the frown? I'm sure you've heard this a billion times but.... though you're poor (relatively speaking) and are probably studying your ass off... the college years truly are the best (or at least most fun) years of your life. My cousin (who's like a brother to me) is 4 years older... He told me my freshman year that college would fly by and to enjoy it... never taking it for granted. I sort of brushed it off... after all, 4 years is a long time! but... in hindsight, he was right. not sure what I would have done differently... but one things for sure, I would never have complained.

Not sure if you've made up your mind on a wing for your 3 hatch but i myself did change the stock wing off my 06 hatch and it's not outrageous at all ... I got it for $250 + cost of getting it painted and you can find it at www.ExtremeDimensions.com ... It's called a Raven roof wing and IMHO it's one of the best looking wings for a 3 hatchback other than the MS3 wing ... Well here's a couple pictures of my car with the wing on ... Hope this helps with your decision ...
