Im looking into getting a MBC.It seems I dont know what one to get.Its between the JoeP,TurboSmart Tee inline, and Accuboost.I just want a single stage under the hood adjustment.I know Ive read good things about the turbosmart but I dont know anything about the joep and accuboost. Is the JoeP and accuboost a ball and spring type?
Any info would be great..
Thanks,Shark

im running the turbosmart. I love it because it doesnt spike, the main reason i got it. The last thing i need is 25psi spikes. Before the mbc my car was spiking 19 in 6th and hold 13. Now it spiking 19 and holding 17 lol.

Thanks..After some more reading it seems people are having problems with over boost on the JoeP so I may count that one out.

So what does the turbo smart have that makes it not spike? I may just get the atp and mbc to deal until pnp comes down the line..

I'm unsure of what makesthe turbosmart not spike, I just know that a lot of people like them.
When I owned my turbo integra, pretty much everybody on the honda forums recommended the turbosmart manual boost gauge. Of course I didnt go with it, and I got a turboxs and it spiked like crazy, but I learned my lesson.
I've just heard a lot of good things about turbosmart.
That, as well as the Hallman? I think its called.

forge is the best i have used. and I have tried them all. The forge holds the most boost to redline. My car spikes 20psi and holds 18psi hard as a rock in 3rd thru 5th. No matter what anyone tells you a mbc will spike on a small turbo. THATS A FACT

*************.com has the ATP BCD, I worked with a 'Rob' there when I got my a-pillar single pod for my Prosport boost gauge. I think he's the owner; they were at NOPI when I called him, lol.
BTW, let me know/keep me updated via pm on this? I want to do a MBC as well, and since you're not far from me, perhaps we'd buy them and put them on together? Just a thought - whatcha think? I'm waiting on a short shifter and custom boots, myself.

If you dont have a problem driving to my house we could do it together.I work 6-7 days a week but will take a day off on Sun. or Sat. to do this job.I dont have time to drive to indy.Im thinking about ordering this stuff in the next few days and want to get it installed before it gets cold outside.
Also I dont think the MBC is that bad of a idea as long as you watch your settings and make small adjustments.Im just wanting to run 18-19 psi and that will have probly a 20-21psi spike maybe so It should be fine Im thinking. This is a much cheaper way to get power then a ems and since the AP isnt out this will hold me over till next year somtime.

Newb question - does MBC get around the boost limit in 1st and 2nd? I thought a read somewhere that you still don't get full boost in 1st and 2nd. Is that because of some other limiter or is the ECU still taking over? I hate the boost limit in 1st and 2nd.

yea it does...i boost 16-17 in 2nd and about 14 in 1st

newbie question, pardon me. what's an ATP?
another question. Would a fuel cut defender prevent the ecu from putting everything back to stock after a few days after you install an MBC?
An lastly, if you're increasing your boost shouldnt you have an A/F ratio gauge to monitor if you're leaning out during hi boosting?
damn, modding a car never ends.

ATP is a company that markets turbo-related products for a number of different cars. Check them out @ ATPturbo.com.
By fuel cut defender, I think you're thinking of ATP's Boost Cut Defender (BCD). If so, yeah, the BCD will prevent the ECU from cutting boost by making it think that the boost pressure is running at normal levels.
As for a gauge, yes, it'd be optimal, but knowing how the motor operates stock, I for one feel it's relatively safe to up the boost a couple psi. Others may not agree, but it's up to an owner's discretion whether or not it's a good idea.

You're doing it this Saturday/Sunday? Sunday may work for me, but I don't have my supplies yet. :) I'm currently waiting on my short shifter and matching boots for the e-brake, shifter, and an armrest cover. I'd like to get into this ATP Boost Cut Controller and MBC thing, I'd like to bump my psi to run at about 17.5. What weekend were you looking at? I'm going on vacation Oct 19-28 so the last two weekends of Oct. are bad... Next Saturday I have a wedding (not mine, phew!), next Sunday may work too - could be a fun day trip. I never miss a chance to stop at the Lowell truck stops for gas, hehe. I'm a frequent Chicago-Indy driver.

Im not going to do it this weekend because I didnt order the stuff yet.The 13th and 14th Im busy.I may just put it on when it comes in during the week since it only should take about 1hr or so.If you want to bring your stuff up when you get it all I will help you install it.Just try to make it on a Sun. since I work every Sat..I have plenty of tools and I like working on cars so its all good if you or anyone else wants to come over and do some work on your car.
Also I just moved from Lowell to here in Valpo. about 1 year ago.

Well I just ordered the parts from PG..After doing some more research I went with the accuboost mbc and the atp fuel cut defender.People are saying that they are not getting any boost spike with the accuboost so thats good enough for me since its about $35 cheaper.I will install next week sometime and then I will go to the Dyno again.

I was thinking about going this route but the total cost is about $200 right? For $600 you can get the cpe standback and get control of a lot more and have a lot more functionality. What do you guys think? I'm thinking to go with the standback but I'm not sure yet if I'll wait for the PNP due last I heard in Nov.

thanks for the enlightenment. Would I still need an mbc and bcd if I get a stand back ems? One of the guys in this thread is having a dilemma whether to go for this combination or to just put an ems. I wouldnt want to but bcd and boost controller if it'll be obsolete after i get an ems. What do u guys think?

i support CP-E and the standback is great...but.....
if you can get the same results for less than half the price....why not ??
i would just like to see some more dynos on cars with this set-up. more importantly i want to see wideband A/F readings at 18psi.

The total cost was $139 shipped and I could get about $70 of that back when I sell it and get a ems at a later date. The price for the standback pnp will be about $1000 I thought I read,Cobbs Ap should be about $600-$700 when it comes out.If this mbc works out well for me then I may not even get a ems.If my a/f ratios seem good with the mbc then I will be happy since Im pretty much done modding my car as far as performance goes.

Do I need to have the BCD if I'm gonna use an electronic boost controller as suppose to manual boost controller?
Would I still have to get a wideband afr gauge if I have profec B which has a built in limiter and warning. If I have a profec I'm thinkin it can safeguard my engine without me knowing my afr...I'll just have to set my boost to a known level where afr is not too lean. I'll just ask someone where would that be on ms3. But then you have to trust them that they're not giving you a value that is actually gonna make the car very lean. There will be too many variables like differing mods. I guess to know for sure then I'll just have to have a wideband o2gauge. That'll add up to about $700 (ebc, bcd, afr gauge) compare to $140 (mbc and bcd). But cheaper means riskier, right? Damn, this whole modding thing getting to be too expensive.

if you plan to run 18 psi....yes you need the BCD. if you plan to run less.....well why would you do that !?!?
