OK. If any of you have read my other thread (probably not) you'd all know that my car has been in the body shop. The rental that they gave me to drive while my car was AWOL was a Chevy Cobalt (ech...). About three to four days ago, while I was coming up the driveway (which is unpaved gravel), a rock must have flung up and smashed the oil pan because the next morning there was oil all over the cement outside my house. I had to get it hauled into the Chevy dealer to get fixed and since this all happened on an unpaved road, insurance wouldn't cover it and I had to pay out of my own pocket - which I'm fine with.
The problem is that they charged me $640 to replace a f#$cking oil pan! I talked to the service guy over the phone and he told me that the oil pan alone costs over $500, (Granted, the oil pan is cast aluminum so should cost more than your run-of-the-mill pressed tin oil pan). But when I went to pay, it showed the pan costing only $220 and labour was $340. How slowly do they work if it costs them that much to replace an oil pan?
I'm going to head over on my day off to the dealer and speak with the manager about this and see if I can recover some of the money. The only reason I paid so quickly was because the rental place needed the car back ASAP and I didn't want to cause anymore trouble.
What do you all think of the situation? Please, throw any comments out there.
