cold air intake for 96 protoge

i am looking for a cold air intake for my 96 protege. when i search, i only find the systems for 99 and above. at car domain i have seen many 96 proteges with different kinds of intakes. my question is could i just use a k&n cold air intake, even tho it is not outfitted for my car?

it's not difficult to get 2 silicon joiners, (a length of alloy with a 90deg bend on each end) then put your air filter in the fog light hole and join it to the maf.
