View Full Version : Satellite Radio and Shark Fin Antenna

Hey guys,

I am hoping to get my satellite radio installed sometime in the comming week or so, so I went to the dealership and talked to the accessories lady about getting the antenna installed next to the regular radios antenna so that I could put the shark fin antenna over both of the receivers. But she told me that they usually put them on the trunk and that it might mess up the reception.

Though I thought that this was untrue. Am I correct or is she right?

I will make sure with the service department when it does get installed to see what they say. But I am sure that I have seen forumers on here with both of their receivers under the shark fin antenna without any reception problems.

Putting it on the roof would require them to drop the headliner and enlarge the hole a bit to run both wires. Most places would charge alot more to do that...

i moved my antenna myself, just had to break the weld on the bolt holding the stock radio antenna on so that when i turned the bolt the toothed washer didn't grab the satellite antenna wire. put my sharkfin on and get the same reception as i did when before when it sat radio antenna was on the trunk. looks better this way too.

I am willing to pay a little bit more, hell its already 500 something dollars so whats a little more? :|

But I didn't think it would affect the reception. I guess I will wait to see what service says though.

FYI the MZ3 guys have been doing the hide the sat antenna trick for a while with zero issues....

The reception is perfectly fine with this setup. I've had mine for almost a year now and I'm happy with it.

I have been thinking of this mod with satellite radio install. I haven't seen a write-up (How To) with pics in my searches...ANYONE? Talbot, you wanna do it? :)

Yeah, I should be able to do one. It should be pretty simple with the instructions and all.

But I probably wont be able to get it done until early next week. I probably wont get the satellite done until this friday.

SGT, would you mind sending me a PM just so I dont forget to do it.
