Lookin at an 07 MS3 GT. Car's obviously a 'leftover' and it shows. They've racked up almost 200 miles on it! (they say it's from test drives but let't get real!) Regardless of that... I'm all about getting a deal so what do you guys think a "good deal" for this car is? I'm hoping/assuming that, since the '08's have already come out, they'd be more aggressive than usual to sell this car.

Since I haven't been seriously looking at these cars... I'm not familiar with what people are actually paying for them. Carsdirect has the invoice at $23,1 and the 'target price' at '$24,6' (which is the MSRP) any chance I can buy this badboy for around (or under) invoice?

I almost bought mine from a dealer in South Cal, they wanted 23,055 OTD for a 07 GT Red with 15K on it. I ended up paying 24K from a private seller for one with 9k, Navi, Rays Rim, D2 Coilovers, 2-way pager alarm, clear bra, TV/DVD etc and a lot of "extra" stuff, so I think you can still push them more since Cali cars are more expansive.

You should be able to get it at invoice. The dealer I went to had a bunch of add on crap. I called them the next day, and told them I would come down and buy it if they gave it to me at invoice, otherwise I would just go to the dealer that was much closer to me and order an '08. They called me back in around 10 minutes and said they would do it..... They did, and I did and now I am having a blast!

If it's at Modern, they offered one to my friend for 1000 under MSRP to get it off their lot.

I'd expect a small discount but I don't think you should expect below invoice or anything.

I got mine for 600 under MSRP in CA. Every other dealer wanted above MSRP.

Just yesterday I went to a Mazda dealer to price a CAI and one of the sales guys started asking me questions about mine. He told me they sold the last MS3 they had just the day before at 1000 above MSRP.

I can tell you first hand that if you get one for invoice you will be very lucky. Thats not going to happen in the bay area. Hell mine had a dealer markup of almost 4k 0.o

i got mine 100 bucks over invoice back when 08s werent even out. 200 miles from test drives? i would def buy it under invoice ONLY. otherwise go to a different dealership and order an 08.

I'm all for buying it under invoice... but not sure that's a possibility. I only threw it out there cuz I've heard other people were able to pull it off.

Yeah.. that mileage is excessive. They scoffed when I... scoffed at it. I was like, exactly how long is your F'in test drive loop anyway? They said 10 miles and I'm like... 10 miles?!?!? lol wtf? so 20 people testdrove (see: beat the hell out of) the car... so yeah, if I'm gonna buy THAT car... I want a deal.

and yeah man... it's at modern. 1000 under sticker huh? that's not too shabby... if I'm gonna make something happen, I better act fast.

I know it's in KY, but I got mine for $1k under invoice for an '07 GT...$24k out the door...

It took some haggling, but it's worth it. I waited until the evening of the last day of the month and they capitulated to my demands...(glare)

Which one is left and who were you dealing with for sales? 200 Miles is a hell of a break in when it's a test driver. And the test drive loop there is long. Highway driving, twisty turny riverside roads, ect. Is it the Cosmic Blue or the True Red?

It's the red one... drled... $1000 under invoice?!!! that's insane. good work! u sure they didn't jack up your apr or something to make up the differnece? how the helll can they lose that much on a car???

200 test drive miles??? That's enough to be considered a used vehicle in my book. Unless they give you a smokin' deal, pass.

I paid $750 under MSRP for mine (straight off the truck with 7 miles for PDI, NO test drives), but I'm lucky enough to be near 3 dealerships who were very eager to get my business.

CHICO2003

Being considered used and actually being used are completely different. Namely, when it comes to the interest rate (assuming you're financing it) and, to a lesser extent, your insurance premium. As everyone I'm sure knows, the interest rates for 'new' cars are far better than those for used. It all comes down to whether or not someone registered it. Once that cherry's popped, it can't be considered new. No matter how few miles it has.

I'm with you on buying it right off the truck. That's how I bought my MSP. To this day, nobody but a good friend of mine has driven it. That's a reassuring feeling.

At the same time... a good deal is a good deal. I put 200 miles on my car it seems every few days so, in reality, that's not THAT big a deal. And as far as your deal goes... no offense but $750 off sticker really isn't that great of a deal. You said they were eager to get your business so perhaps you bought yours when they first came out last year. (that's when most dealers could get away with standing firm on the MSRP)

I'm shooting to be a couple grand off sticker so... if it takes buying a car with a couple hundred miles on it to do so... I'll take my chances.

200 miles of test drives on a 10 mile loop.... sounds like a girl I used to know

like the door knob @ the library -- everyone's had a turn

It doesn't matter on the APR because I'll have it paid off in 5 or 6 months...As it is, they didn't. They had two '07s and two '08s on the lot and were a bit, um, desperate...(2thumbs)

BTW, it had 30 miles on it...(lol2)

Update: Went there last night to 'haggle'.... Spoke to the salesman, then the salesmanager. Told them I'm not interested in playing games. Said either this 07 or an 08 next spring would be my next car. Since I'm not desperate for a new car, I'd have to get one hell of a deal in order to make a move. So I asked for his best price...

He gave me $750 off sticker. I asked him again if that was the best he could do and he said yes. I then politely told him I'd sleep on it and let him know tomorrow. (knowing full well that a $750 savings for a leftover 07 with 200 miles on it wasn't enough... especially when there are members getting far better deals elsewhere.)

Oh well... guess it wasn't meant to be.

Did take the car for a spin though. Oddly enough, it was a mile at the most.... so they were full of shit about their so-called 10 mile test drive loop. More than likely, one of the salesman took it for a weekend try to impress his lady friend of something.

car was pretty badass though. Wasn't expecting it to be as fast as it was... Diddn't like the blue/red guages (glad I drove it at night or I wouldn't have known) and stereo lighting is far too busy for my taste. Since I'd be upgrading the stock system anyway, maybe a sport is more my 'speed'.

CTGrey02
09-21-2007, 08:15 AM
You can turn off the stereo's lighting effects so it's not a big deal. Replacing the stereo and keeping all the climate control options and everything else I'm pretty sure is though, so good luck with that. The stereo is my biggest gripe with this car. Like I said, they offered a friend 1000 under MSRP to get it off their lot 2 or 3 weeks ago. Who was your sales person? Give John Risk a try if you haven't yet.

CHICO2003
09-21-2007, 09:08 AM
yeah... John was the guy I dealt with. Super nice... and genuine. Seemed to have a lot on his mind though.. the salemanager did most of the talking.

I tell ya.. $1000 off 3 weeks ago and now $750? That's pretty weak. Since there really isn't a huge markup on this car... $1k off seems reasonably fair. (they're still making a good $500 off me) The mileage sort've throws me for a loop though. I'll always be thinkin what others had done to it....

Got my MSP off the truck. nice feeling knowing I'm basically the only one who has ever driven it.

Yeah... they make a double-din replacement bezel for the MS3... it's perfect for my needs and, since I'd be replacing the speakers too, I proibably should just wait for a sport.... I'd miss the xenon lights and led tails... but those can be had.

CTGrey02
09-21-2007, 09:34 AM
I'd just scrap the stereo in all honesty if your looking to do that. The head lights, auto wipers and seats were a bargain for 2k more with out the effort of installing them.

CHICO2003
09-21-2007, 10:00 AM
true...

I sent emails to the other 2 dealerships in the state asking for their best price on similar 08 models. If they're unwilling to budge from sticker, then maybe this $1k off at modern's "reasonable". Otherwise... I'll just wait until the spring.

CTGrey02
09-21-2007, 10:05 AM
Factor in that Winter is coming and the car only has summer tires. That 1000 dollar savings could get used up right there, not to mention the amount of rocks that will be on the road this winter will annhilate that new paint job. Make them an offer, don't ask what they can do, and let them accept or deny. Threatening to buy an 08 isn't a threat as they know they'll sell the last one and they'll make far more on you in the spring. Also, if your trading in your MSP you can work the price up on that to make up the difference. I personally think you can get more selling it privately though.

CHICO2003
09-21-2007, 10:12 AM
I already have a buyer for my car... They priced my car and it wasn't even close.

Good point on the winter coming though... Would hate to subject a brand new car to that type of BS.

I guess my rationale for telling them I'd just wait until next year and buy an '08 was to show them I wasn't in a hurry to make a move now and that, if they really wanted to sell me this car, they'd have to step up and give me a hell of a deal. otherwise... I'll wait until the spring. no guarantee I'd buy from them either.

These guys live in the here and now. This car's been on the lot forever and they have monthly quotas to hit. Personally, I was surprised they weren't more aggressive last night. Maybe they have others interested... who knows

Just some FYI for you still trying to get an 07 Speed3. I've been communicating with a ton of Mazda dealers in my area (DC area MD/VA) and there are very few 07's left. I've also looked around in the Ohio area, have family there, and found a few. The best prices I've gotten have been about $1200 under sticker. ONe was for a 07 Sport and one for an 07 GT. That seems to be the best anyone will do. Most have said $500 over invoice which is about $1K under MSRP. I don't think we will get a better deal than that.

I originally wanted the Sport too as I could change out the stereo and add HID but the more I think about it for roughly $30-$40 per month in payments, its worth getting the GT model.

I'd take that deal in a heartbeat. I wish I could get my dealers to give it to me at Invoice. They think it's a rare car when they have 8 08 models sitting on the lot. They are clueless.

I'd buy it today if I was offered invoice.

Jake Sweeney in Cincy started the bargain at $200 under MSRP. I used them and Tom Wood out of Indy as bargaining tools to get the price down on mine. Heck, Oxmoor Mazda here in Louisville still has one '07 on the lot! Back at the end of July, they had two (I got one), another Louisville dealer had two, Wood in Indy had one, and there were 4 or 5 in Cincy. If they're not plentiful where you are, look around.

Heck, be willing to fly somewhere to pick it up. If you do that, however, make sure to get it in writing before you go. I nearly did that when I was looking into an STi. I would have saved ~$4k by doing so.

My advice? WAIT TO BARGAIN UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH! Until then, they won't do jack! They don't have to! They're not under such pressure...yet. Trust me, it worked here!

Ooops---just missed part of your post! If you're shooting for $500 under invoice, you should ask for $1000 under and meet in the middle as a "concession." It's an old bargaining trick my father taught me. It worked here!

That's funny you metion Jake Sweeney in Cinci. That is actually one of the dealers I've been dealing with. They have an 07 Silver GT that I'm considering. They have quoted me about $300 over invoice right now but I'm using them to bargain back with a dealer in my area in MD. I did get an email from the Sales manager though so I'm going to wait until later this week to get a better deal at the end of the month.

Nevermind, I see it's in Kentucky.. The one here in MD is a Red 07 Sport. I prefer the silver at Jake Sweeney, cause it's a GT without the NAV. Thanks for the info!!

Just looked online and on their site and didn't see the 07 GT you are talking about. Is it considered used?

Nope, it's new. I saw it on their lot just a few minutes ago.

However, due to medical issues I just learned of this past week, I may be selling my baby, a black '07 gt w/3k miles on it. It is and has always been mod-free. Let me know if you or anyone else is interested...(sorry if I just hijacked this thread...)

I think that Oxmoor has had that one since July. When I looked at it there was a $3000 ADM sticker on it. They also had a used Cosmic Blue MS3GT and they were asking $28,000 for it...
I wound up buying my MS3GT from Kings Mazda in Cincinnati. I will never set foot on a Jake Sweeney lot after the treatment I received at their BMW dealership.(argh)
