Someone find me a track!!!

I have owned my MS3 for just over a week now, and although I haven't even begun to push her yet (break in!), this car is screaming for me to go to a track.

I have never raced recreationally, nor even owned a car that could. My '97 240SX could've been worthy had I put the time and $ into it, but in it's N/A-Auto config., it was highly anemic.

My question is, how does one get involved with recreational racing? I consider myself a good driver, but certainly not on the offensive end. How many of you compete in time trials and so forth? I fear I am going to need a legal outlet before...(five-0)

Autocross is a good way to get into motorsports. Found a Chicago SCCA page.

auto x is a great way! once you sign up on the forums you can also find out when they are having open trackdays as well

Join the BMW Club of America (http://www.bmwcca.org ). You don't have to own a BMW to join. You DO have to be a member in order to participate in the driving events conducted by the local chapters. In the Chicago area the Windy City Chapter puts on first class driving events at tracks such as Gingerman, Putnam Park, and Road America. These aren't racing events, but they DO teach you techniques that you can use on the street and can also give you a a tiny bit of understanding about circuit racing. Windy City also conducts a full Auto-X schedule. They are good people as well, several Windy City members own Miatas and other non-BMW performance cars. It's an excellent way to start learning about high performance driving- whether or not you ever turn a wheel in competition.
