I took it out for the first time 2 weeks ago in Astoria. Took 3rd and even got a medal for it!(cheers2) 4 runs and I didn't rip off the new FMIC woohoo.

Don't mind the pink wheels, its just our teams trademark haha.
The blue awd protege is my friends car.

That looks fun!!! I don't think I'd have the heart to put my car through that type of driving though.

Poor MSP, getting all dirty and abused. Looks like fun though.

Yeah if I was rich and the msp was my track car I would be all over that like white on rice.

Looks like a really fun time :) is this going to be a regular thing for you?

I think it will be a regular thing. Might as well get the most fun out of the car before it goes zoom-zoom-boom.

Only bad thing about it is the hrs of cleaning afterwards. Suspension probably takes a beating and you start to get some rattle but its worth it to me.

Can I ask why you had your rear window partially down? Didn't that cause a lot of dirty to get in?

It was really HOT and A/C is a no no when racing for me. In the end it was a baaaaaaaaaad Idea. Back seat and rear deck were loaded with grass and dirt. lucky no mud.

That looks like barrels of fun. I've been in SCCA Solo II races before, but never done rally like that. I'd be too afraid of messing up the MSP somehow. Although if I were to rent a car and get the rental insurance, I could probably not feel so bad about it.

PeaJay, u should try Autocross, its probably lil easier on your MSP. I just recently started doing it through the SCCA.

yah, way to go Rally ninja!!!

I think I got you beat by a couple weeks- i participated in a rallyx in Mn on July 28th.

Hopefully the picts attach ok.

I'm a long time autoxer and wanted to spice things up a bit. I did one rallyx last year with my old '93 SE-R which was perfect for it- kind of a beater, hella good performance car, running snow tires, and at that first event i took first!

This year i returned to what the guys claimed was the smoothest venue (hey, I do care about my new ride) but with the Speed. Even though I didn't do as well in the standings (bald tires, not as technical as this autoxer wanted), I had an awesome time. The car survived no problemo, just weighted down with a lot of dirt on the undercarriage. My car is stock and still managed to beat over half the field.

I'll stick with autox but once a year during the summer is good for a rallyx. Up here in mn, the long winter provides plenty of rallyx opportunities.

Ohhh nice! SCCA needs to find a gravel pit or something like that around here to run their events at!

You get your car sideways at all?

chuck b
09-08-2007, 08:04 AM
yes, it was oh so easy to get sideways with the tires I had. the tech guy told me with my tires, it'd be like taking rollerskates to an icerink.

it doesn't show in those picts however. the only picture of me sideways was too obscured by dust.

one of the big differences between autox and rallyx is the changing conditions of rallyx (autox is typically only affected by the change in temp during the day). to reduce dust, the course was watered down on occasion. and re-graded on occasion. so my biggest sideways moments were when I hit an unexpected watered down muddy patch. I spun out and sent the mud flying doing this.

however, years of autox habits are hard to break, which means running a very tidy line. most rallyxers are there to have a good time, screw how fast they complete the course. sideways and hanging it too far out = slow times, but damn fun times! on the first hairpin corner alone, most guys were 10-15 feet from the first cone due to the adrenaline/testosterone mix- but they had big grins on their ugly mugs!
