I want to get a new catback exhast on my MP3 but i havent really found a whole lot of them that are specifically for the MP3. I was just wondering if a cat-back system for an MSP or MP5 would fit on the MP3. Are all the brackets in the same place and are the bends in the pipes the same???

any mazdaspeed system will physically fit, but might be too loud since most were designed to be used with the turbo. any 3rd gen system will work, as long as its made for the sedan. do NOT consider any exhaust made for the protege5, as it will be too short by about 4-5 inches.

^What he said. The two most popular for the sound/quality are Racing Beat and Magnaflow...anything else sounds ricier or just too loud

I thought the MP3 came with a Racing Beat style cat-back new. If not, the Racing Beat on my ES is very nice.

It came with only the racing beat muffler. No piping.

^Exactly, and it's only 2" ID...the Racing Beat catback is 2.375" ID; mine is waiting for me in Ogdensburg, which means my stock setup will soon be for sale, locally first of course...

Exhaust was bought used on here.
Most things on my list of "stuff done" were either custom, bought/installed by the previous owner or bought used on various forums...mostly this one.
Racing Beat can either be bought in Canada at Mazdee's in the GTA, or bought from the states and sent to Ogdensburg (cheaper then shipping to Canada I believe.

Right now i'm just running a straight pipe to the Racing Beat Exhaust. It's not too loud, has a nice deep sound to it. I'm actually going to get a different header for the car. I just re-welded my wagner shorty and about to put it up for sale soon.

Seeing as you have the exhaust off, could you check the ID of the "racing beat" s-pipe both at the catback connection and at the axleback connection?

I guess I must be one of the few who loves the sound of my stock system. I don't remember if it got much louder or a different tone after I got my header installed, its been such a long time. Its deep toned and mostly quiet until you really get on it. Even then not very loud.

I love the sound of mine too.. I'd just like the extra kick, if any from a catback.

I noticed a change in sound with my K&N, still quiet when i just drive, but much deaper and somewhat louder when i step on it.
